This big mother of a Russian Imperial Stout is often considered one of our true classics. Despite the 13% ABV, you'll find Black Albert to be dangerously drinkable. With its thick, tar-like body, it's definitely a sipper, but the alcohol is very well-hidden.

Sehr dunkelbraunes fast schwarzes Bier mit geringer beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, reife Früchte, Kaffee, alkoholisch, genauso ist auch der Geschmack.

Bottle. Pours a black colour with a small light brown head. Aroma is chocolate, fruit, licorice and alcohol. Sweet flavor of licorice, dried fruit, coffee and caramel. Has a warming alcohol finish. Very nice.

Botella de 33 cl en beni casa bar, de zombier en octubre de 2012. --ba. no. 14 brs bew--. Increíble belgian royal stout, gran cuerpo, intenso y con gran densidad y con lo mejor, 13 vol q conjugan perfectamente. Sabores maltosos tostados y quemados bastante intensos. Muy muy buena. Imprescindible repetir una vez mas.

330ml bottle from Les Crepes de Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours like thick motor oil with a beautiful tanned head. Dark, sumptuous and alluring with raisins, chewy toffee and maybe even a faint hint of bitter dark chocolate. Coats the back of the palette in a potent, viciously delicious paint-like liquid that sends the tastebuds into a frenzy. Incredible.

Bottle, 14C. Very black with a fine tan head that lasts quite well. Aroma of mocha with floral notes, dark/ burnt sugars, blackberries, fairly overt alcohol. Syrupy, low carbonation. Very sweet with fudgy caramel/ sweetmeat, coffee, surprisingly bright floral hoppy notes. Dries out towards the fairly bitter end. Alcohol doesn’t stick out as much as in the nose. Pretty harmonious and thoroughly pleasant, but no great depth - which, at 13%, it surely should have.

330ml bottle. Pitch black colour with late awakening, average, frothy to creamy, fully lasting, moderately lacing, brown head. Rich dark malty aroma has notes of treacle, dark chocolate, coffee, mocha, roast, some liquorice, vestiges of bitter hop, enormous malt-spiciness. Taste is roasty dark malty, notes of coffee, dark chocolate, treacle, liquorice, strong bitter hoppy counterpart, cautious hints of warming alcohol; lasting, finish, oily, viscous texture, sticky palate. Strong and spicy, rich and complex, a massive attack on the senses - highly drinkable though. Excellent stuff.

Bottle. Aroma chocolate, raisin, prune. Strong and rich, tempting. Oily texture, pitch black colour, dark brown head. Taste is caramel, chocolate. Light roasted grains. Mostly sweet, with only light roasted bitterness. Very good, though I would up black patent. Alcohol hidden well.

Sampler bouteille @ RBBWG III, thanks Danko.

25 cl. hand bottle sampled @ RBBWG 2014. Courtesy of & thx! to Danko. Bottled shortly prior to consumption. Lighter black with no head. Nose is sweet, mellow mocha, caramel, dark chocolate. Taste is sweet, brown sugar, mocha, touch soy sauce & charcoal, bitter herbs, overripe fruit. Creamy, lower carb. Solidon its own but cannot hold a candle to the regular one. RIS is prob. not the style that benefit the most from this kind of treatment.
