Burnside is our brown ale. Layered with roasted notes of coffee, burnt sugar, and chocolate, but balanced by a touch of malty sweetness and rolled oats for body, it finishes smooth and easy.

Ruby-brown colour and steady beige head. Coffee and burnt sugar in the nose. Light-bodied. Flavour has coffee and some toasted sugar. Light backbone. Duh.

16oz can pours a mostly clear, black tea color with a finger of lacey off white head. Nice nose. Nutty. Malty. Some brown sugar and cookie. Roasted nuts. Earth. Flavor is bready, nutty, malt. Some tea notes and blonde roast coffee too. Just a pinch off dry, some tannins.

16 oz. can from Bier Cellar, Portland, Maine. Pours a murky orange-brown color with a khaki head. Aroma of sugary molasses. The flavor is much nuttier than the aroma, with some chocolate notes too. Medium body. No coffee flavor (thankfully). I wish the can hadn’t gone flat because I think it would be much better. Damaged goods in transit.

Can from Beer52. Brown with a smear of beige head and a light but prickly fizz. Rich malt, cocoa nibs, wood, a little espresso, roasted nuts, a touch of white pepper. Semi-sweet with a nice full mouthfeel (let down slightly by the prickly fizz). Dryish finish. Very enjoyable, good first beer of the year.

[16oz can from Beer52.] A chestnut coloured pour with a tight cream head; biscuity malt aroma; smooth malty taste, with caramel, nuts and a touch of chocolate to finish. A chewy, full bodied, brown ale.
