Tasting at Mr Smith’s Skyflat. Thanks to the Bois. Light haze on this deep reddish - amber beer, decent tan head. Palate is light, semi dry and has modest fine carbonation. Dry dark malts, a little roasty bitterness. Touch of dark chocolate. A fairly harshly bitter floralness. Modest bourbon soaked fruits. Bitter spicy finish. Bit of a bitter bastard.

Bottle big thanks to Cloin. It pours darkest brown with minimal tan rim. The nose is bitter - sweet, chewy, fruit cake, dried fruits, light smoke, tobacco, vanilla, wood, dark fruit and bourbon. The taste is bitter, chewy malt, bourbon, wood, oily, toffee, crunchie, slick, burnt marshmallow, sweet roast, alcohol boost, rough, smoke and medicinal vibe with a warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth - feel. I sort of like the smoked medicinal vibe. Is this really a Jack Daniels barrel??

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Colin. Pours clear brown with a bubbly tan head. Meaty fruits in the nose, a bit of cocoa, toffee. Medium sweet flavor with sturdy smokiness, some burnt ham, dried berries, earth, light cocoa. Medium bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, with more cured ham, smoke, burnt toffee, bread, dried fruits. Boosty, and quite tasty.

Bottle split at LKS, trade thanks to Fin, 07/01/16. Rich mahogany brown with reddish hues and topped with a moderate light tan swirl. Nose is light smoke, toffee fudge, candied fruit peel, jammy berries. Taste comprises dark chocolate, toffee fudge, subtle barrel, fruit cake, toasted brown sugar. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, light warming booze in the close. Ok impy but far from a show stopper.

Bottle from Kaapse Brouwers, Rotterdam, consumed at home on Thursday 14th May 2015 Black as yer ’at light beige rim. Yes you can tell it is a barrel aged beer and yet it’s not too in yer face. Smooth and slightly rich, gorgeous, thick in the mouth. Taste is a little stronger than 9.7% the JD barrel ageing has been done well here, adding to rather than overtaking what this beer has to offer. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 3.9
