On tap at ’Café Hesp’. Clear, very dark reddish brown with a large, creamy, almost stable, tan head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of caramel, some vinegar, nuts and hints of wood. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity taste of caramel, raisins, vinegar, nuts, blackberries and some wood, followed by a short, slightly bitter, minimally woody finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Very nice, but also intended to be like that?

On tap at Café Hesp, tfs Jan! Dark ruby brown colour, pillowy beige head. Aroma of rancid butter, diacetyl, light sourness, raisins. Smells like the first beer of the day from the tap line. Flavour of dark malts, dark fruits, raisins, butyric acid, light cocoa. Medium bodied. Could be nice, but bad handling screwed it.

Bottle. Red chestnut, low offwhite head. Dusty almond aroma. Sweet cherry, blueberry, wood, caramel, burned sugar. Dry yeasty, spicy, berry finish. Harsh, not very harmonic.

The brown Keyte, launched in 2007, with contradictory name as dubbel should indeed be dark but tripel is pale by definition. Also tasted as Strandjuttersbier Mong De Vos, which is apparently the same thing. Cream white but quickly dissolving head, dark wine-red colour. Dark fruity aroma, caramel, lots of DMS (red cabbage), fresh mushrooms, liquorice, cinnamon, iron, bark; sweet taste, candied fruit, port- and sherry-like touches, grape, thick maltiness, creamy mouthfeel, some spiciness, light hoppiness in the finish, insufficient to balance out the initial candi syrupy sweetness. I hate DMS and that is what ruined this for me.
