Bottle 33 cl. Pours an almost clear reddish brown with a creamy beige head - comes as a slow gusher. Rustic aroma of overripe - even rotten - dark fruit, quite pruney with a hint of wood and Brett. Rich and filling body - very enjoyable - but the carbonation has these huge and vulgar Belgian bubbles. Again prunes and overripe fruit combined with brown sugars and some decent balancing hops. Nice - apart from the excessive carbonation. 131112

33cl bottle: labelled as ’Strandjuttersbier MONG de Vos, bought with a pack of other brews at a beer shop in Wenduine who have it bottled/labelled for them. Poured into a Westmalle chalice on 10th Oct 2012 @ home: no sediment left the bottle. Browny red sort of hue to the colour: the thin off-white head didn’t even stay as long as it’s took to write this! The smells were/are of stewed plums and candid fruits for a cake mix: this is one alcohol laden fruit cake in a glass. The taste is very simular to what your nose is telling you: rich, alcoholic and fruity (plums and raisins mostly). Sweet and fairly thin bodied for the alcohol content, the alcohol is present from the start and is barely hidden. It does however give the beer a punch and helps to hide the lack of body. This is a ’roaring fire’ sort of winter beer: I enjoyed it.

(Draught at Bier Circus, Brussels, 20 July 2012) Dark brown colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, dried fruit, prunes and raisins. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, prunes, raisins, brown sugar, hints of chocolate and a mild, fruity acidity in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness and a moderate bitterness. Well balanced and tasty. Quite nice.

draft @ Bier Circus // woody, dark brown with this very creamy solid, café au lait head, kind of Guinness style // heavy glue like malts, creamy instant coffee like qualities & flavours, quite ripe dark fruits, plenty of raisins, milk chocolate, dose of liquorish, berries & some light hop & hop bitterness buried underneath in the end // smooth, creamy, soft carb. // quite digging this // really not getting the name?

4/III/2012 - 33cl bottle as "Mong De Vos, Strandjuttersbier" from Bieren den Haene (Wenduine) @ home - BB: 23/VIII/13 (2012-215)

Clear deep ruby red to purple beer, big beige head, adhesive, unstable. Aroma: raisins, sugar, sweet malts. That's about it. MF: too much carbon (hellooo, Strubbe?), medium to full body. Taste: sweet ripe fruits, bitter hops, red berries, some raisins, caramel. Alcohol remains well hidden. Aftertaste: sour berries, ripe fruits, sugary, milk chocolate.

Lightly hazy reddish-brown body with a lightly brown creamy head. Aroma of malts: caramel, chocolate, raisins, ... Moderately sweet, moderately bitter flavour. Perfectly balanced and an ok complexity. Wasn’t expecting this at all. Great surprise!
