24K rating. Bottle. Pours black with small tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong bourbon, wood, smoke, roast, licorice. Slick body, roasted malt, cocoa, wood, vanilla, bourbon heat, held up well, enjoyed this.

329/484 . Pours black, no head. scent is full, sweet, dark sugar. Taste is full, sweet - obviously. Dark sugar, but not as over-the-top as the basic one. mild oxidation - still acceptable. Sharp bourbon notes, woody, very nice balance. Very lovely carbonation, thick body. lovely beer.

Sampled at Week van Het NL Bier 2017 @ Grote Kerk Den Haag. Massive thanks to kermis for being the kindest beerlover and congrats to Deanso who’s here in person for a massive milestone. Black with no head. Big sweet roasted malts, big chocolate with perfect syruppy sweet bourbon allover it, big coconut. Big sweet and moderate bitter. Over medium body. Just so lovely. Gravy train. I don’t know what to say. Thanks!! --- Beer merged from original tick of Dark Lord (Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Aged) (2011) on 08 Jan 2018 at 14:31 - Score: 9

Loads and loads of great bourbon, strong toffee, fudge, sweet milk chocolate, sweet soy sauce, lots of sugar, sweet malts, more caramel, light booze, vanilla, butter candy. Bottle shared at the Moeder Lambic cellar session 2015 along with the full 2011 lineup. Pours black with a few brown bubbles. Aroma still shows the pappy strongly upfront, with oak, dark chocolate, marshmallow, fudge, vanilla and roast. Flavour is heavy sweet, but calmed from the normal cloying dark lord way. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Really delicious, they say it’s falling off, maybe it is but it’s still damn delicious.Tried again in May 2017: It’s still drinking well and not showing signs of oxidation or anything like that. Still strong pappy with Dark Lord sweetness but in a way that’s subdued and just works with the barrel aging. Really great!

Bottle at Stout 3 & Freestyle Tasting, massive thanks to Ken! It pours very dark brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. The nose is toasted coconut, oily, toffee, fudge, tablet, chocolate gateaux, light soy sauce and vanilla. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, sweet fudge, salted liquorice, soy sauce, coconut, bourbon, vanilla, warming alcohol and oak. Full body, low carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Pretty sweet, yet mellow and well-balanced. Solid stuff.

Bottle shared at the Stouts Pt. III & Others: The Brokeback Tasting - London. Massive thanks to Kenny the Great for finding this at the back of his fridge. Pours clear, black brown with a faint, beige foam head. Lots of rich bread, brownies, chocolate cake and soy sauce in the nose. Big sweet flavor, lots of molasses, some brownies, light earth, vanilla, brown sugar, sweet bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, tons of creamy dark sugars, boat loads of molasses, moderate chocolate, heavy bread, restrained booze, further vanilla, soft burnt wood. Really delicious stuff. Quite a sipper. I do enjoy a nice, sweet Dark Lord variant.

Opaque black - brown beer. Decent tan head. Smooth soft palate, viscous body. Mild minerals. Rich sweet dark malt. Sweet bourbon and coconut. A little vanilla. Mild dark fruits. Finishes softish and semi dry. Actually hides the abv quite well! Soft sumptuous tasty treat!
