Chiswick Bitter is Fuller’s popular session strength ale, which derives its name from the area of London where Fuller’s is based. This lower strength beer is held in high regard across the South East of England and, like its stablemates London Pride and ESB, has won the prestigious CAMRA Great British Beer Festival, Beer of the Year award, in 1989. In fact, Fuller’s is the only brewery in England whose top three brands have won this award: a fitting testament to the skill and dedication of the Fuller’s brewers!

Day 6 of the Fullers advent calendar. Tiring day so this was a welcome start to the weekend. Subdued pour and light chestnut in the glass. Taste is very light malt and bitter hops making this a very old-school bitter. Yes, you can drink loads but you would get bored quickly.

Bottle. Deep golden color. Pear in the slightly floral aroma. Medium bodied. Malty sweetish cookie flavor with floral notes. Fairly low on carbon. Tasty for 3.5% ABV

Cask@Counting House, London - golden to light amber pour with white head. White bready malty with some citrus fruity notes, medium to light body, low soft carbonation and mouthfeel, slight grassy and twiggy bitter finish.

Bottle at home. Had a number of times from 2008 onwards. It pours clear golden with a decent white head. The aroma is quite soft, rather mellow, toasty grain and dull sweetness. The taste is rather mellow, dryish, soft, bit of toasty grain, bready malts, toasted nut, light sweetness and dried leaves with a short finish. Light body and soft carbonation. Too light and doesn't quite have the depth of flavour of the cask version. Certainly drinkable, but not much going on.

Cask at the Dove, Hammersmith. It pours clear golden with a medium, sturdy white head. The aroma is malt - driven, bitter - sweet, toasty grains, cereal and caramel. The taste is dry, quite clean, soft, mellow, bitter - sweet, cereal, toasty grain, earth and nut with a soft finish. Light body and soft carbonation. It is a bit too light for my liking, but there is nothing wrong with it. Fine enough.

Handpull cask at the Mawson Arms, Chiswick. Golden brown, clear with a loose-ish white head. Nutty, sulphury smell with a touch of earthy hop. Clear, bittersweet sulphury taste. Some toffee apple in the finish. Did this used to be a lot better or have I ’outgrown’ it? Either way perhaps not one of Fuller’s better offerings.
