12 oz can, poured black with small tan head. Full bodied. Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Bitter burnt malt taste upfront, with bittersweet chocolate towards the finish. Excellent stout to sink your teeth into.

A deep dark stout with a thick frothy lacing dark brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with smooth vanilla, alcohol warmth, light licorice, pleasing. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with light peated notes, light vanilla, light licorice, alcohol warmth, very nice and smooth. On tap at L'autre oeil.

Can, 8.0% ABV. Always nice when you buy something because it looks interesting and it turns out to be a region tick. Black with a cm of tan head that doesn't last that well. Roasty aroma with dark berries and brown sugar and yes, a hint of that Guinness-like twang (hence he name, I guess). Just about medium bodied with moderate to soft carbonation. There's a bit of sweet bread crust and licorice strap there but almost acrid roast and a fair hoppy bitterness take over a bit sooner than I'd hoped. Still, a good beer.

Pitch black color. Cacao, light medium roasted malt, some lactose character medium full body. Ok but not great depth.

22nd March 2019; 12 oz can into a 'Leffe' chalice while in California. As black as used engine oil with the same sort of tanned wispy head you get when you empty the sump. Viscous too! Aroma has dark chocolate and light coffee esters, defo malty in nature. Taste is chocolate and again mild coffee, some vanilla and lactose also. Not really 'sweet' but it's one of the very few beers that 'I could feel my arteries furring up' as I drank it (like when I've been eating a Cinnabon). Had to clean my teeth straight after drinking it too!

The aromas are roast Cocoa dark malt a bit of black patent and toffee. Flavors are like Nose, mildly sweet fairly balanced and easy drinking. Great body and a hint of strength.

Keg at Hopcat Madison. Black, thin creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of roast, chocolate, leather, tobacco. Taste is roast, caramel, chocolate, tobacco, a bit of cherry. Medium-full bodied. Not really getting any sourness but very good.

Sampled from the tap at Red Cow North Loop. Pours near black with a creamy brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has dry, dark, earthy grains with roasted malts and a hint of coffee supporting. Flavor is similar with dry dark grains, roasted malts and a touch of coffee.
