The tripel in this Bornem series of authentic abbey beers, brewed for the Sint-Bernardus abbey in Bornem. Officially recognized as an authentic abbey beer since 1999. Used as the mother beer of many aliases.

Bornem Tripel is een krachtig bier om van te genieten als dessert of als aperitief. Sommigen verkiezen het bij mosselen of andere zeevruchten. Dit abdijbier past ook uitstekend bij een hartige kaasschotel.

Pale blond. Aroma is floral, perfumey. Flavour has a light sweetness featuring banana. Alcohol comes through in the finish. Carbonation is excessively high.

Golden colour, big white head. A lot of carbonation. Sweet with light bitter aftertaste, also metallic. Not very balanced.

Bouteille 330ml. De couleur dorée et voilée. Nez de levures fruitées (agrumes, traces de pommes mûres et de bananes vertes) aux notes épicées (poivre doux, traces de coriandre), moyen de pain, léger de sucre bonbon avec des effluves d’alcool doux et des traces de miel. Rondeur moyenne en bouche. Goût de levures légèrement épicées (poivre doux, note de coriandre, traces de coul de girofle) et fruitées (agrumes, léger de pommes, faibles traces de bananes vertes) lors de l’entrée en bouche suivi d’un goût de pain, léger de caramel doux avec des petites notes de sucre bonbon puis en finale l,on retrouve une légère amertume d’alcool (chaleur présente)avec des notes de houblon herbeux. Post-goût moyen, légèrement amer d’alcool avec des notes fruitées (zeste d’agrumes, pelure de pommes) et des traces de houblon herbeux.

7/XII/12 - 33cl bottle @ Antwaerps Bierhuiske - BB: 19/III/14 (2012-1334) Thanks to Akke for sharing the beer!

Clear golden beer, big creamy head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: typical VS yeast, flowery, sweet touch, hint of yoghurt. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: bit flowery, citrus, bit sour, sugary, some ripe fruits. Aftertaste: bit alcoholic, yeasty character, flowery, alcohol warming the throat, soft bitterness. Decent Tripel.

330 ml bottle. Pours a clear amber with huge head of large bubbles and lots of carbonation. Aromas of honey and malt. Very similar flavors right up front but also including banana, bubblegum, and yeast.

eerste slok was behoorlijk bitter. Dit ebte web in verloop van het biertje of kwam dit door de alcohol. Smaak van gerstemout duidelijk herkenbaar, zoet, bitter, citrus en pittig. fijne schuimkraag, hoog op Co2. vrij hoog op mout gehalte. redelijk maar zeker niet een van de betere tripels.

[Bottle from Beers of Europe that Jim shared with me - cheers!] Gold with a large white head. Banana, lots of wheat and yeasty bread dough. Very sweet, although there is a bit of dusty bitterness in the finish. Not for me this one.

Bottle at Cafe de la Gare. Clear golden pour with a medium white head. Aroma of citrus, fruit, yeast and bread. Flavour is sweet, citrus and yeasty. Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
