Great taste is more than the beer in this bottle. It’s classy and quirky and vibrant and subtle. It’s chaos and balance, inately in sync. It’s not something you learn, it’s a second instinct.

It’s old worldly charm with a modern day spin. Rich roasted malts with chocolate a l’ancienne. London and Paris at home in one drink. It’s just a few of our favourite things.

Roasty, dry, bitter cocoa notes. Slightly watery, regular carb. Light bitterness, more solid cocoa powder notes in the finish. Decent Porter.

473ml can. Pours a clear brown with red hue and a small, creamy, short lived, tan head that laces. Semi-sweet aroma of roasted malt, cocoa powder, caramel and a hint of licorice. Semi-sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, ash and day old coffee in a dry, mild bitter finish. Light body with a thin, watery texture and average carbonation. I thought this was going to be a chocolate bomb, when in fact the chocolate was quite restrained and the body was a little thin for the style. Still pleasant, but I was a little disappointed.

Draught at the brewery. Dark brown. Not much head. Light chocolate on the nose. Sweet up front, then a bit of roast. Just a touch of that chocolate sweetness. Not bad.

Bottle: Poured a clear black color porter with a medium light brown foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of light chocolate notes with some dry coffee notes and light bitterness. Taste is a mix of dry coffee notes with light bitter black chocolate notes with some hints of residual sugar notes. Body is light with OK carbonation. Lacking cohesion with body too thin to really support the flavour profile.

I guess the question is, how many microbreweries can one city support? It’s hard to keep up with all of them at this point, and how many are really worth following? Truth be told most of them are average at best; probably better to leave it to the imports and the macros to deal with as they could imagine. Nonetheless this stout pours with a minimal head and brown body, achievable by anyone with a tub and an instruction manual. The aroma at 3.0 celcius is just roasted barley, boring. Flavour is a good mix of barley and hop, okay dry finish. Average at best.
