This malty, smooth maple cream ale has a hint of maple syrup, with a mild hop bitterness. It’s a tribute to both Quebec’s legendary sugar shacks, and the tin roofs that littered this island back in the day. Big saps welcome. Get Under the Bridge. Tastes of caramel malt with light hop bitterness, balances the malt flavours with hints of maple without being sweet.

Nice, a Granville 12-bottle mixer pack at The Beer Store. Pours a clean copper colour with an off-white, creamy head, that has decent retention and cream-like lacing. Beautiful mildly sweet nose with the caramel malt and butterscotch notes and kind of nutty. The maple appears a bit more in the taste, but very well-balanced to not overpower the sweetness. Hints of apples with the smooth malts. Quite nice to have a cream ale with the maple (instead of the normal lagers or blonde ales). Feels more like a light maple nut brown.

This ale poured a deep amber colour with a minimal head, white and spore like. Scents include cream, very light maple and caramel. First swig was smooth and watery with flavours of maple and caramel. Sweet on the palate. Finish is also sweet with maple on the palate.

Deep crisp amber coloured body with a copper glow and a thin, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of toasted nuts, malt, alcohol, apricots, pears, wort and a bit of funk. Light-bodied; Sharp maple and honey flavour with a lot of unfinished sugars, some malt and metal and a touch of nuts in the mix. Aftertaste is relatively mild with only a touch of alcohol and malt noticeable, when most of the other flavours are caramel, raisins and a pungent amount of maple, but it doesn’t show too well. Overall, a pretty uninspired beer that shows some good flavours, but not enough of them to be strong enough to sample over the water flavour. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from the brewpub in Vancouver (Granville Island), British Columbia, Canada on 17-July-2008 (yes, four years ago) sampled at home in Washington on 23-April-2012, a day after Vancouver was eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs (haha).

From the bottle. Smells all right and was always a good sipping beer at festivals and parties. Nice taste of nuts and hops in the body, not an expensive brew either, which made it good for everyday evening drinking.

Sample, draught, drank on site, savoured on February 9 2007; eye: caramel with a burgundy hue, no effervescence, almost no head, clear; nose: faint odours, slightly sweet but I cannot smell the maple syrup, light malt, grassy hops; mouth: hops, malt, fizzy, rather short finale is sweet, lightly lactic, I can taste a bit of acidity, creamy texture, medium body, rather thin; overall: definitely, maple-flavoured beers are not for me FRANÇAIS Échantillon, en fût, bue sur place, savourée le 9 février 2007; oeil : caramel avec une petite teinte bourgogne, pas d’effervescence, mousse presque absente, claire; nez : arômes faibles, très légèrement sucrée mais on ne peut pas discerner le sirop d’érable, léger malt, houblon herbacée; bouche : houblon, malt, pétillante, finale sucrée plutôt courte, légèrement lactique, il semble même y avoir une petite pointe acide, texture crémeuse, corps moyen, texture plutôt mince; en résumé : définitivement les bières à l’érable c’est pas pour moi

On tap at Granville Island Brewery tap. Deep copper/chestnut colour with thin beige head. Caramel malt aroma. Bit too caramelly for me, bit of earthy dryness on end. Not overly sweet, but it has a definite maple syrupy aftertaste with moderate hop dryness. OK

Reddish amber ale with a thin off white head. Caramel malt with pruney notes, a bit of roasted nuts. In mouth, sweet malt with barely any hops, again very short in mouth, plain and boring. Not very much in terms of maple.
