A fine, full-flavored ale brewed strictly from top-grade barley malt, choice aromatic hops and pure artesian water.

Nice foamy white head with decent retention and good lacing sits atop a golden, borderline amber body which is clear and lightly bubbly. Musty vegetable aroma. Honestly smells like a lightly used shoe, not bad but definitely not good. Not hoppy, not malty, kind of yammy, a descriptor I tend to use for crappy, old, or old crappy beers. Up front it’s really generic and light in flavor, balance is far towards malt. Tastes like it was brewed ages ago which ironic considering it came from a package of antique styles, maybe they literally found some old ass beer. A hint of hops at the end, not as much as a vegetable flavor as I’ve experienced in some brews but still quite odd. M/D - Light to moderate body. Drinkable. What I’ve learned from this variety pack so far. Old beer all tastes the same, and old.

12 ounce bottle from a Wegman’s. This was available as a single but I assume it was part of the Beers of the World thing that I declined to buy a few months earlier. I appreciate the beer assisting me in opening the bottle. The cap popped off with quite a bit of force. That being said, though, it leaves a wispy, anemic offwhite head. Aroma of toasted malts, green apple and a bit of nail polish. The taste is very much the same with a bit of raisin as well. Stock ale... no way. Not bad, not good. Medium bodied and over-carbonated.

12 oz bottle from acknud! thanks! Nose of sweet with light caramel and vanilla notes; clear dark gold with a medium yellow white head; flavor has very light hop bitterness with some caramel; finish starts slightly sweet then goes to lightly bitter.

I bought this bottle in Maine of all places, probably 2 years ago and have kept in the fridge ever since, trying to figure out what it was. In fact, this version wasn’t even brewed at Joseph Huber, mine lists Rochester, NY and thus is a High Falls creation.
Expecting to dump it after pouring, I was shocked when a very large and well-retained beige head rose up in the glass, atop a dark amber-auburn body with deeper mahogany tints. Clear and filtered, but amazing that it still has such a head.
Estery nose, with ripe fruits scattered about caramel, nicely rich pale malts and a dry, crusty, earthy note from some other medium malts. Absolutely flawless, with no oxidation!?!?
It was even more surprising to find a deliciously malty flavor with honey, vanilla, caramel and some woody/earthen malts all being balanced by a perfect amount of hop bitterness on the finish. Perfect attenuation and a very nice level of carbonation, resulting in a nearly-creamy texture. Extremely drinkable. Wow, go figure.

12 oz. Bottle. Interesting; the label shows LaCrosse as its city of origin, so I thought this was a City Brewing product. A lightish amber smell. Pours similarly light amber, under a foamy brown head. First taste impression is that there are some nice hops here. Not a lot, but it stands out better than the malt does. It’s a marketing tool with a fictional label, but a bit of okay. Lacks the usual iron water taste that distinguishes most Huber output.

Bottle. Slightly sweet barley malt aroima. Amber volor with small head. Light malt flavor with a bitter metallic finish. Poor even for an Amber Ale.

Looks terrible - very dull amber with no head and an abundance of murkiness. The aroma is vaguely caramelly with vegetables, copper and some of that Soviet-style funk. Tastes of sour caramel and, well, I don’t really know. It tastes like really old brewery using cheap ingredients. Damn. Only marginally palatable.
