Another year and our best yet. Twelve glorious years total! Thanks guys and gals! As you’ve probably noticed, along the way we’ve developed quite a fetish/addiction for Belgian-style brews. Here’s another style we’ve been craving to concoct - an intricate Saison, full of zesty citrus and spicy notes paired with a subtle herbaceous essence. Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, imported Belgian malted wheat, sweet orange peel, lemon peel, grains of paradise, chamomile, lavender, hops, and Belgian yeast.

Hazy golden ale with a thin creamy off white head. Initial hop attck with notes of ginger, oranges and alcohol developping later on. In mouth, a sweet sugar malt with definite ginger and sweet mandarins. Rather nice smooth bodied ale. Bought in MA, Julio’s Liquor, Spring 2006.

Hazy gold color with a slight orange hue. Minimal white head. Pungent aroma. Wow. Smells like flowers, some citrus, yeasty fruitiness and spice. Flavor has an interesting spice component along with banana, a bit of malt, some orange peel, a hint of lemon, a peppery zing and hiding out behind all of this are some bittering hops. The finish is sweet malts, yeast fruitiness and just ripened bananas.

A hazy orange beer with an off-white head. The aroma is very fruity and spicy with notes of peaches, cinnamon, and ginger. The flavor is sweet with notes of ginger, juniper berries, violet, and nutmeg, leading to a dry end.

Hazy yellow-orange body, highly carbonated, with a medium off-white head. Cloying, peppery, sweet, and sugary aroma with notes of fermented melon, yarrow, perfume, and chamomile. Thankfully the cloying sweetness of the aroma wasn’t present in the body, which was quite soft and bubblegummy, with herbal notes, flower petals, pepper, and chamomile. Crisp mouthfeel with well-hidden alcohol content. Hit-or-miss with regard to its various attributes, this beer overall falls off the radar screen as far as Saisons go.

Draft, at the Brew Kettle, Cleveland. Last of my 31 U.S. Beers for American Beer Month! Cloudy yellow with a whipped egg head. It just looks nice. Very, very spicy. I pick up coriander and grains of paradise without having read any description. Then imporessions of cinnamon and a bit of ginger, and some of whatever goes into a Dr. Pepper. Belgian malts at work with a slight wheaty spritz. If you can get past the spiciness, it’s quite airy and refreshing.

Bottled. Clear golden, brief head. Aroma of soap, lavender and cinnamon. Sweet with clean, hard mouthfeel. There’s loads of sugar and soem oranges. Lacks the liveliness of a real saison. Salty finish. Pleasantly spicy, but with simplistic malt structure.
