Bottle: Poured a bright cloudy orangey/amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet Belgian style malt with some floral and fruity hops notes. Taste is also dominated by some sweet malt notes with some fruity and floral hoppy notes with light peppery yeasty finish. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Closer to a strong Belgian ale then an IIPA but very much enjoyable.

Bottled, large sample. I assume it’s more than a year old, as it is 2012 edition. Slight hazy amber color, medium off-white head. Aroma of cookie and biscuity malts, flowery hops, bit citrus, some mint and coconut. Medium bitter in taste, some cookie sweetness. Like the regular troubadour magma this one is a lovely mix between a DIPA and a Belgian style malt-forward beer. The cookie works great with the bitterness and the (soft) spicy esters. The Sorachi Ace definitely gives that extra dimension in that it adds some minty sweetness to it. Works perfect in my opinion. Wonderful balance, great complexity. Top quality beer.

Bottle, bb 31 aug 2015
Hazy amber color with large head, persistent. Light aroma, some flowers, a bit metallic. Good body structure; there is some malt flavor, little residual sweetness, some spicy yeast; quite strong bitterness, some chicory, and remarkable absence of sorachi ace characteristics.
Pretentious (or old?).

Very hazy amber beer, massive pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and slightly soft but has sharp carbonation. Mild malt cream, a little aniseed. Mild lemon-cream from the Sorachi Ace hops, quite subdued. Finishes soft with mild bubblegum esters. This is disappointingly drab when compared to the base Magma but it’s an all right beer.

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, best before 8/1/2015. Pours lightly cloudy golden orange color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with plenty of streaming carbonation retaining the head; fantastic appearance. Aromas of big lemon, lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, floral, grass, pine, honey, bread, pepper, herbal, floral earthiness, and yeast spiciness; some light estery alcohol as it warms. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester notes. Taste of lemon, lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, pine, floral, grass, honey, bread, pepper, herbal, floral earthiness, and yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of citrus, light fruits, pine, floral, grass, honey, bread, pepper, clove, floral, earthiness, and yeast spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of hop and yeast esters; with a good balance of malt and spiciness; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a lightly slick, sticky, and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice single hopped Belgian DIPA. Very nice balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast esters; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
