Tasted from bottle as Slaapmutske Winterbier and from tap as Slaapmutske Bruin (thanks to Dany, the brewer, himself); a dubbel with crackling, stable, moussy, light beige head and misty bronze colour with amber hue. Fruity and purely malty aroma, apple sauce, banana, strawberry, caramel, coriander, chocolate, cloves, a whiff of coffee, herbal hops, some red cabbage. Agreeably malty taste, fruity and vaguely sweetish, peppery spiciness in the middle, light toasted bitterness and herbal hoppiness in the finish, but rather short. Pretty high carbo for the style. Decent.

Bottle at Moorings. It pours amber with a thick white head. The nose is earthy, brown bread, spice, light sweetness, horlicks and muffin. The taste is bitter, toasty, brown bread, spice, light caramel, fruit cake, citrus peel, banana bread and earth with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Well rounded and easy going.

Bottle shared with Jmgreenuk. Pours brown with a tan head. Aroma of heavy caramel, treacle, toffee, butterscotch. Flavour is over moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Pretty well balanced as the aroma suggests major heavy sweetness that doesn’t appear in the palate. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

330ml bottle from Antwerp and tasted on the Belgian railway tasting. Poured a hazy dark brown with a big frothy white head. The aroma is toffee treacle and a little yeast. The flavour is medium bitter light sweet with a toffee weak liqourice bitter bubbly zesty palate. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. One of the nicest Bruin beers I’ve tasted.
