Barrel-Aged Blended Ale - Dark & Delicious

Our Mélange series is at the core of our experimentation with flavors that cannot be achieved outside of the art of the blend or by any one beer. This is one of our original mélanges… at its very finest. Mélange #3 is a blend of three ales with stories stretching back to the earliest days in our bourbon barrel-aged program: Black Tuesday, our Anniversary Series old ale and our wheatwine-style ale. The combination reaches through the bourbon veneer with complex notes of dark chocolate, coconut, dark fruits, oaky undertones, rich caramel character and warm vanilla.

Bottle. Unclear deep brown body with a small tan head. Strong and nice aroma with plenty of dark malt, dry fruit mixed with some caramel, hint of vanilla and some fine, warming alcohol in the direction of Bourbon. Flavor is quite sweet, dark malt, dry fruit, mild caramel, nice balanced bitterness and very good balanced alcohol with the same Bourbon/vanilla flavor. Surprisingly little boozy for the high alcohol and not too much perfumed type of Bourbon either, just pure joy in a bottle. Full bodied and long lasting aftertaste.

(Bottle) Cloudy brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, vinous nose with notes of dried fruit, prunes, raisins, figs, oak wood, bourbon, vanilla, caramel and dark bread. Malty taste with caramel, dried fruit, rum-raisins, prunes, figs, dark chocolate, vanilla, oak wood, bourbon, dark bread and a warming, slightly boozy finish with a balanced roasty bitterness in the finish. Full body, sweet. Powerful and warming, still far more balanced than the alcohol level would suggest. Really tasty. Great beer!

Bottle split at the last minute CBJ Tasting (big thanks Marcin for hosting), thanks to Kenny for this one, 13/07/23. Extremely dark mahogany brown verging on light black and topped with a thin tan head that escapes to a swirl. Nose is chocolate, toffee, dried fruits, molasses, brown sugar melt. Taste comprises fruit cake mix, caramel, dates, figs, cocoa powder, bourbon nip, dark malts. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close laced with warming alcohol. Fun time old skool leaning USA strong.
