A brew to finish a day in the fields! This sparkling wine / beer hybrid perfectly balances the familiar spicy characteristics of the saison yeast and apple tartness with rich honey notes.

Keg at the Rake. It pours hazy golden yellow with a minimal white head. The nose is sweet apple, pear, spice, earth, hay and mulled cider. The taste is bitter-sweet, hay, earth, light spice, nectarine, apricot, peach and icing sugar with a dry, sweetish finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and chewy mouth-feel. A bit viscous and sweet to be honest. OK.

Taste comprises peach yoghurt, orchard fruit, apricot, light spice, champagne yeast, bread dough, grassy notes, citric rind, light brett and funk. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, smei drying close with a tartened fruit resonance. Solid saison.

Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. Hazy, straw colour. Thin, white, lasting head. Rich, sugary, apple crumble aroma. Yeast. Fresh, dessert apple. Taste is tooth melting sweet. There is some dryness, and a little yeasty tartness, but for me, not enough to balance it all out. The Missus, however, thinks this is the business. I do get it, and I have enjoyed it. But I wouldn’t buy another.

Bottle courtesy of Thomas that he shared with myself Mes & Sim at Merton Beer Festival, big thanks! Friday 28th February 2014 . Pours murky hazy puddley gold colour with off-white head. Sweet in fact a little too sweet, there is not a great deal of apple a very little tanginess. It is yeasty, spicy and with quite a lot of caramel some mushy indistinct apples but I wish this was a bit zappier. Fine but not as good as I was expecting. Many thanks to Thomas for sharing this.
