A very interesting creation with apparent craftsmanship. The head is quite fizzy and disappears quickly. The nose features coffee first with a hint of sourness. The taste profile leads with a refreshing sourness supported by coffee which grows from an initial bitterness to a richer, creamier flavour as the taste settles in. Hints of roasted nuts and ripe cherries help build complexity. The beer stays in balance to the end and is nicely supported by a strong effervescence. What will they think of next?

500ml @ Josh's place. Appearance: very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma: fruity, cherries, sweet and sour, some roasdted malts. Taste: along the same lines. Overall: not sure why others did not like it, I think it's pretty good.

Dark brown. The aroma is all kinds of wrong... I mean it's sour but not in any sort of good way. Tart, sour, gross.

500mL bottle, pours black with a small white head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, a little lacto and light acidity. Flavour is tart, with earthy roast, tartness, and a little acidity. Flimsy and poorly conceived. Crappy.

Collaboration of Canadian Pit Caribou with Broadway, described as an imperial black Berliner Weisse - which drew my attention when I went craft beer shopping, as obviously Berliner Weisse is never either 'imperial' or 'black'; I assume the 'Berliner Weisse' aspect is best ignored here and this whole beer should be interpreted as a strong dark 'kettle sour'. Anyway, 75 cl bottle from Geers shared with Craftmember and Hinke, producing a thin and open, egg-white head that eventually dissolves completely over a hazy, very dark chestnut brown beer with warm mahogany hue. Quite refined and complex bouquet of reduced cranberry sauce, marmite, stewed plums, dry red wine, blueberry jam, madera, ruby port, fig compote, caramel, rum. Sweetish onset with an immediate tart edge that quickly turns into a slightly vinegary acidity, sour plum, blackberry, grape and faint balsamico effects, softly carbonated in a vinous, quite 'full' environment. Supple caramelly and nutty malt base, dried by this overall sourness but in quite an elegant way, leading to a warming, sweet-sour finish with lingering toffeeish and blackberry-like aspects, drenched in dry red wine; the alcohol adds a light warmth in the end without interfering too much. Quite a complex, vinous, fruity beer - if this is the level of complexity that can be achieved by kettle souring, I wonder why not more Berliner Weisses and Goses have it... Obviously this beer is not a Berliner Weisse at all - breweries should be penalised for using style names this liberally - but a very interesting and refined beer nonetheless, more so than expected, frankly.

Bouteille 500ml.

Texture mince. Effervescence vive. Une expérience parmi tant d’autres. Plus ou moins réussie. C’est particulier, mais pas très impressionnant.

Bottle - Dark soured malts. Jet dark brown with a light head. Sour dark roast, dry tartness and a salty finish. Odd, but not bad.

Bottle: Poured a clear black color ale with a medium bubbly head with no retention. Aroma of tart notes with dry roasted malt is pretty singular. Taste is a bit sharp at first with strong tart notes and light roasted malt notes but mellows out as you get used to the taste. Body is light with limited carbonation. Interesting mix and more sour then I was expecting a Berliner weisse to be. I won’t be necessarily seeks this out again but interesting to try once.
