On tap at Mikkeller Bar, pours a deep amber with a medium tan head. Aroma of cinnamon, clove, and vanilla. Flavour of cinnamon, vanilla and clove -- quite sweet and spicy. Fairly creamy palate. Not the most complex beer, but decently well-designed. Not bad.

Pours dark red with a smooth head. Aroma of malts, spices, berries and yeast. Taste is malty and sweetish with some berries. Finish is smooth and malty with some farmyard notes. Quite balanced traditional ale.

Draught. Hazy murky brown liquid with medium to big off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, gale, dark fruit, bubblegum and earth. Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of knäckebröd, toffee and gale. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice stuff. The gale worked better than I thought it would. Very balanced.

Sample @ SMÖF 2012. Pours hazy reddish brown with a bubbly brownish white head that slowly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, tiny salty and herbal with bread, sweet gales, anise seed, grass, dry wood and moist soil. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter and tiny sour with dark bread, sweet gale, slightly dry grass, cereal and hints of metal. Mouthfeel is round, tiny tart and light to medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, tiny bitter, tiny sour and tiny salty with dark bread, sweet gale, grass, moist wood, anise seed and hints of lemon zest. Not a big fan of sweet gale.

On tap at Borefts 2012, Bodegraven. Pours clear, dark gold with a creamy, off-white head. Big spice nose, some herbs, gingerbread. Medium sweet flavor, cinnamon, toasty bread, herbal bitterness. Medium bodied with smooth, creamy carbonation. Moderately sweet finish, more winter spices, nice toasty bread. Wonderful, flavorful winter beer. This beer is a fantastic representation of the spicy winter ale variety.

Draft @ Borefts 2012. Dark ruby amber with a tanned head. Heavy sweet licorice, herbal, honey. Tastes of ginseng candy, syrup, licorice, strongly herbal, touch of honey. Easy to drink, interesting, nice. Does the description in Swedish mean this is a no hop beer or.... Indeed as Gene says in his review some of that sticky pine tree stuff as well.

On tap at Borefts Beer Festival, Bodegraven, Netherlands, Friday 28th September 2012 Clear light chestnut a little nutty, soft in mouth. A little dark sugar. Good, in fact very good beer, nice fruity tanginess. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6
