A very tasty thick and roasty variation on the Black IPA theme. The overall taste profile features a nice marriage of slightly bitter coffee and chocolate elements with gripping hops, toasted malt and a touch of cherries and cream. There is a strong sub-taste of mollasses or dark toffee, but it is not too sweet. The body is thick and satisfying and the significant effervescence punches up the taste. This blend works really well for me.

Soft roasty nose, soft pine resin hops with some leafy, fresh cut grass. Soft carb, and a velvety mouth feel. This beer is subtle, and smooth. It had an overall softness about it. All the components of a good black ipa are there, but it lacks bite. The alcohol is very well hidden, and the bitterness is about medium, and not over the top. Subtle cocoa notes in the finish with a nice routines and some pine to round it out.

Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights. Big frothy beige head, great retention and loads of creamy lacing. Grassy hop aromas over the mild roasted malts. The hops are more dominant in the taste. Sharp grass bitterness with a dry finish. Coffee and chocolate notes. A pretty good Imperial Black IPA for those who like the stronger hops in these one. Recommended for hopbombs lovers that also like the alcohol.

Bottle: Poured a clear black color ale with a large dark brown foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malt with some light astringent notes. Taste is dominated by dry roasted malt notes with some astringent notes and some citrus hoppy notes with subtle tart notes in the aftertaste. Body is slightly below average with good carbonation. I thought this one balance and was too astringent for my own taste.

Bottle from the LCBO. Dark brown with red highlights under a huge lingering tan head that leaves patchy lace. Big roasty nose with a decent pine undertone. Light sweet roasted toffee with medium bitterness of coffee, chocolate, pine and some grapefruit. Medium+ creamy body with a lingering bitter finish and average carbonation. Alcohol is well integrated. Mmmmm.

Dark brown, fairly big toasty/roasty stuff with leafy green hops. Sweet syrupy chocolate with a rich roasty and intensely hopped character, with an intense lingering finish. Gets a bit harsh as it goes

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
10oz

Dark mahogany color, nice light on the edges, beige creamy head. The aroma has a lo of resiny hops, then the roasted malt. Good strength, yet the mouthfeel is lean; strong flavor of roasted malts, without falling in the ash trap, but with more liquorice than expected. Very strong bitterness; in the final, some coffee character.
Good beer.

Bottle - Roast malts and pine hops. Jet black with a bubble big brown head. Roasted malts with a hint of the hops and finishes with a bitter roast. With a very hop forward nose I though the balance would be off, but the taste is dominated by roast which I prefer. Well done for my taste.
