Aroma is rich dark chocolate, deep roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, black treacle, liquorice, molasses and a singed plastic edge. Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Full body, slick oily texture, soft to flat carbonation. Great complexity, with a strong bitter roast finish. A nice sipper.

Can bought from Hoptimism, drunk at home. Indigo black with a tiny and quickly dissipating brown head. Bitter chocolate, salt plum, rubber, a little bit of blackberries and vanilla. Taste is fairly sweet in the first instance, with intense bittering hop taking hold mid-sip. Very bitter aftertaste. Full, thick body, soft to medium carbonation. Lovely.

Shrewsbury Month Beer Exchange, Chez Sophie; 29th April 2019. Just the four of us this month, so mostly smaller offerings to share. Last beer of the night; thanks Paolo for the 440ml offering (can, BB March 2020) of this 'night-cap'. Black bodied, viscous and oily; on top a tanned head. Malty and Milky with a coffee leaning. Nice way to finish the session.

Can. Beer Central, Sheffield. Pours oily, almost black. Thin and fully lacing, viscous, tan head. Looks boss. Nose has wet leather. Tar. Tobacco leaf. Fruity dark chocolate. Dried vine fruits. Taste is toffee sweet, with a vinous, dark malt and chocolate bitterness. Rich and smooth mouthfeel. Medium body. Fine carbonation. Stickiness on the lips. Lingering, dark chocolate bitterness on the finish. Pastry free impy, of high quality.
