330ml bottle bought at the brewery in London in November 2012 and stored in my cellar for the next few years. Pours a warm golden body, almost clear. Remaining filmy layer leaving dotted spots on the glass. Juicy malts and ripe citrus nose. Comprehensive taste profile of apricot, honeyed malts, dried fruits and oak. Rounded, warming, and lingering bittersweet finish. Well bodied. Lovely (Shared with Finn and djoeye, rating session in Tromsø 23.03.2017).

Bottle at the pre Bamberg tune up in the Sham, big thanks to Kenneth Veronica Mitchell (I seen his passyport!) for digging up another Kernel from the archives, 23/01/14. Hazed orange amber with a moderate off white covering that thins a little. Nose is woody, bitter tropicals, orange pith, grapefruit, mango, hops, light boozedom. Taste comprises pineapple, bitter orange, woody booze, mango, light BA qualities. Fullish bodiment, fine carbonation, drying fanfare. Good stuff, not easy to pull off but the whisky BA has worked well whilst retaining DIPA qualities.

2/VII/13 - 33cl bottle @ De Hopduvel (Gent) - BB: 14/VI/17, bottled: 14/VI/12 (2013-593) Thanks to Bobochamp for sharing the bottle!
Clear orange beer, small to no head. Aroma: bit sweet, caramel, honey, sugary, vanilla, some banana, spicy, bit peppery even. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: pretty bitter start, citrus, alcohol, woody, some caramel and honey, spices. Aftertaste: bitter, alcohol is noticeable, dry, tannins, some whisky touch (you don't say!), little sugary, dry and bitter finish. A bit too boozy, but pretty good for a barrel aged (double) IPA. Usually that sort of thing doesn't work out too well.

Bottle shared at Paul’s birthday party at CBC Clerkenwell - London. Just some whale I harpooned many moons ago! Pours lightly hazy gold with a big, frothy white head. The aroma is all dried pale malts, dried citrus, hints of toffee. Medium to big sweet flavor with pale bread, ripe grapefruit, orange, hay and tangerine. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish, lightly resinous, with some further dry pale malts, pale wood, a bit of whisky kick, dried citrus. Interesting, but in the end The Kernel’s DIPAs don’t get better when tossed into a barrel.

Kernel Whale, thanks to Leighton. It pours hazy golden yellow with a small beige head. The nose is wood, icing sugar, sweet orange, potpourri, faint medicinal notes and some whisky. The taste is pine, earth, orange, nectarine, tangerine, resin, parma violets, alcohol, oak, only a hint of whisky, earth and some sherbet with a warming finish. Fullish body, fine carbonation and viscous mouth-feel. A touch cloying. Balance is not there for me and it’s pretty boozy to boot. Not their best.
Bottle at Craig's.

Bottle that is labelled differently from the non dry hopped BA SCCANS. Almost clear amber beer, good pale cream coloured head. Lovely nose of vanilla wood, mild whisky and tropical fruits. Palate is airy and a little dry. Light creamy malt, quite airy. Mild vanilla wood. Rich whisky but much less dominant than in the regular BA Sccans. Nice orange, mango and other tropical fruits bringing up the rear. Finishes semi dry with a little aniseed and more creamy malt. Love the way Double Sccans has evolved from hop dominant, to BA dominant and now this where there is great balance.

Bottle from the brewery BADSCCANS Galaxy dry hop version. Hazy deep gold lasting white head. Lots of tangerine on the aroma, some hop some from the whisky. Now there aren’t too many barrel aged double ipas I like. But this one really is quite good. Intense caramel toffee tangerine. Really rather lovely. Some alcohol heat on finish. To be honest its pretty damn good.
