A similar brewing process to lagers with the use of lager yeast is used in the production of Royal Extra Stout. Fermentation time is much shorter than lagers, and takes place at a higher temperature. Finings traditionally composed of isinglass (fish bladder protein) are designed for yeast removal used during conditioning (storage) prior to filtration. It is also gives the aphrodisiac connotation.

275ml bottle from Epicurean Supermarket in Antigua on vacation. Pours an opaque black with a small, creamy, short lived, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel and coffee. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, molasses and licorice with a dry, bitter coffee finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation.

Thanks to Kraddel! 275 ml. bottle split by two @ train to Kerstbierfestival 2017. Black mocha head. Nose is vegetable roots, hint varnish. Taste is malt syrup with bit odd vegetable roots bitterness, almost roast. Body is malt syrup & roots. Bit odd but far better than I would expect for the Caribbean, we actually drank this one. Also I discovered that I had been placing Trinidad & Tobago shamefully wrong on the map.

Pours black, small, medium unstavle , creamy, rather white head. Smell is mild malty., roasty. Taste is sharp, rather bitter, bit herbal notes, bit boozy, mild sweetness, dark fruit. Medium thick mf, rather low carbo. Very interesting, bit weird with the herbal note it has, but certainly not bad.

Pitch black pour with a thick mocha head and great retention. Spotty lacing. Slick mouthfeel. Smooth stout with a little licorice flavor. Okay. Not offensive. 6.8 ABV is undetectable.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Sean. Pours a pitch black color with a medium light brown head. A light nose of lactose and metal. A nice flavor consisting of metallic roast, sweet smoke and molasses, some sweeter caramel. Pretty much spot on for the style, very drinkable and very enjoyable.

Bottle shared at the ChrisO Flags of Many Nations Easter Tasting 2013 - London. Pours clearish brown with a creamy tan head. Sugary dark malt nose, some sweet bread. Medium sweet flavor, a little thin, with dark sugars and sweet chocolate. Light to medium bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Sweet finish with sugary dark malts. Very simple but not terrible.
