24th October 2016
Lightly hazy amber beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy, semi dry and has decent carbonation. Fluffy malts, modest sweetness. Modest malt cream. Fair bit of dry wood and fresh wood. Modest hop spice.Mellow citrus peel and a trace of bourbon. Floral dry woody finish. Quite woody and dry but fine.

330 ml. bottle. Batch 03.2016. Hazy orange, little off-white head. Nose is strange soapy hops, burned butterscotch, rotting peach, grapefruit peel, soap, vague brett,... Taste very odd brett, soap malt, sugar, moldy orange peel, brett profile reminds me vaguely of Orval, base is odd malts, burned butterscotch, caramel, more soap, finish is bitter mold brett & dried orange peel,... Body is soap, malt, brett,... Like a very odd soapy messy take on Orval. Very odd & messy, not entirely successful, an odd one. Not all beers can be sadly Orval I suppose, not sure if that is what they were going for.

10/VIII/16 - 33cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck (Vichte) @ Erwin's BBQ ponton tasting - BB: n/a, bottled: III/2016 (2016-832) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!
Clear orange beer, huge creamy yellowish head, very stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: funky, artificial brett, bit soapy, more soap, floral. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very bitter start, very soapy, unpleasant bitterness, floral, more soap. Aftertaste: hoppy, some citrus, little sourish, artificial brett, very soapy, don't like it.

Bottle of almost half a year old. Deserves its name: very violent gusher, beer streaming out of the bottle neck no matter how careful I opened it, lost about 1/3 of the content - not a great start, obviously. Thick and rocky, egg-white, irregular head with thick patches of cobweb-like lacing, lightly hazy, pure amber colour with slightly coppery hue. Aroma of dried orange and grapefruit peel, soap, freshly grated ginger, some FFF (manure), sundried tomato, paprika powder, whisky, wood tannins and even some ’real’ moist wood (even though only wood chips have been used), dried peach, varnish-like solvent, horseradish, lemon balm, moist earth, sweet red curry, some stale sweat. Fruity onset, quite vivid with hints of green banana, grapefruit and apricot, more sourish than sweetish but quite balanced, quite sharply carbonated (not surprising seen the fierce gushing) and numbing a bit, smooth and resinous malt middle, bit caramelly with a toasted bitter edge that smoothly shifts to a hop bitter, long finish, making it feel even more resinous than it already is; soapy effect too, paired with a drying wood tannin effect that actually goes well with the spicy, earthy, almost Orval-like hop bitterness. Some warming ’jenever’-like alcohol as well but well placed, as a finishing touch, so to speak. Good idea, but not well executed; the amount of gushing is downright offensive and there are certain ’animalistic’ and manure-like traits in the nose that put me off a bit, hinting at bacterial infection which should not be there. Interesting beer from an abstract point of view, largely ruined by a debilitating infection.

33cl Bottle from Uiltje Taproom. Hazy dark orange colour, off-white head. Aroma of wood, Brett, funk, fruity hops, herbal. Flavour is very bitter, almost glue - like, Brett cheesiness, yeast, wood, tannins, fruity, light hoppy, herbal, firm bitter finish. Medium bodied.

Bouteille 33cl, bottled 03/2016, batch A. Ambrée, col épais crémeux beige.

On tap @ Brewda 2015. Hazy red color. Light beige head with good retention, goeie wandplak. Aroma’s: brett-funk, sweet malts. Retronasal there’s white oak, tannines, a bit solvent, brett-funk, fruit. Flavor is bitter and bretty. Medium bodied. Long, dry and bitter finish. Complex and a flavor explosion indeed, but I could have done without the brett.
