Bottle at the brewery, 3/23/18.
Dark cocoa-ebony, undetermined clarity. Tan head atop fades steadily to a ring.
Boozy, sharp, dark as hell (malt-wise) with licorice, ash and tar featuring prominently. Definitely not a dessert stout...There's very deep, rich, intense dark fruit and just loads and loads of unrelenting roasted barley acidity. But what it really suffers from is the raw alcohol.
In the mouth there is an immediate caramel malt character with milk and dark chocolate, as well as light honey-like richness. Quickly adding to this is strong bread, soy and other oxidative notes with lingering cardboard. Carbonation is super low and rather loose creating a watery feel to the beer, despite a fairly soft malt texture. Treacle and caramel continue on with strong maple sugar throughout. Overall, quite a letdown. Loose texture/mouthfeel and overly maple-forward (this is certainly exacerbated by the low/under carbonation). Way too much oxidation for its age. Hopefully just an off bottle.

750 ml. growler @ "Adam Chandler Visiting (for real this time)" Tasting. Filled sometime in December 206 I believe. Meant to be cellared max 2 weeks. Mainly because the amount of sugar in this which might have cause it to exposed. No one was harmed. Black with almost no head; Nose is mellow umami, surprisingly big hazelnut, roasted notes, big sugar, sweet, not overly so. Taste is sweet maple, sugar, big pralines, slightly umami, chocolate syrup, hazelnut, faintly boozy. Low carbonation molasses & pralines body. Very neat stuff, could use bit more depth for me, slightly less umami, nice stuff all the same. Thanks to Marina for making vegan Magnum ice-cream coated with this beer. Amazing stuff.
