San Francisco, a.k.a “The Paris of the West,” has long been home to a diverse culture of bohemians and a bastion of art, creativity, and progressive thinking.
This decadent dark quadrupel-style ale was created in that same spirit–brewed with dark candi sugar, dried flame grapes, and orange peel, then fermented with a French ale yeast. Pair with funky Roquefort cheese and visions of a grand tomorrow!

Creamy beige head soon left a cover on a near black, slightly effervescent body - looks appealing! Dark stone fruits, demerara sugar & malt aroma. Medium to full bodied, creamy on the palate with a tickly tang on the back. Tastes as the aroma - dark fruits, plum, grape, brown sugar & dark chocolate with long tangy and boozy aft.

9th Nov 2016: bomber between four at the monthly Shrewsbury beer exchange group meeting in Chez Sophie. Cheers Simon for this offering. Ruby hue to this dark brew, tanned topping. Different and interesting beer, my sweet tooth taking to it instantly. Raisin flavours all over the place, a Christmas Pudding of a beer if ever there was one, spicy and fruity throughout.

660ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, oct 16, thanks to Simon! Pours dark brown with ruby hints, thin off-white head. Aroma of brown bread and raisins. Taste bears earthy spice and wholemeal bread with more dried fruit notes emerging as it warms. Ok.

Tap. Brown color with beige head. Aroma coffee, some brown malts, some candied sugar. Taste is more coffee, prunes, dried fruits, a touch of sourness. Fine-bubbled carbonation. Very good!

Tap at Erzbierschof Zurich. Red berries, fruity, sweet, a bit sour and tart. Redcurrant. Low but crisp carbonation, with an actually rather light body. Rather dry, short palate, some lingering berries. Nice, but not outstanding.

Sampled from 0.66 l bottle at RBBSG 2016 in Evergem. Hazy, dark brown with a beige head. Sweetish, moderately roasty-malty aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, dark ripe fruits and hazelnut. Sweetish-malty, a little sourish, moderately roasty taste of milk chocolate, coffee, hazelnut, dark ripe fruits and a touch of citrus, followed by a short, slightly tart, a bit roasty-bitter finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent and a bit astringent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!

Thx! to Benzai. 650 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBSG V. Dark brown amber, tanned head. Nose is oxidation, sweet orange peel, closes, oxidizes malts, sweet, lightly vinous, quite empty,… Taste is sweet red grapes, sugar, soap, oxidized malts, bit metallic, fizzy, thin & quite vinous overall,… Doesn’t feel right. Something went south here likely, I don’t think that this is how they intended / made it. Not entirely bad but not entirely right either.
