Bottle @ home. Almost clear, amber/brown body under a huge, creamy pale beige head. Aroma has lots of caramel malt with some toasted bread, and spicy esters. Taste is sweet caramel malt, toffee, brown sugar, spicy yeast, hint of dry fruit and alcohol. Balanced body and same aftertaste. Highly drinkable, but not particular exiting nor complex really.

Pours hazy dark ruby red with an unstable, frothy, tan head. Aroma of red apple, rainwater, iron, caramel, raisin, green tea. Taste has sweetish raisin, red apple & some banana, soft berry sourness with bitter herbs & iron. Herbal hoppy finish, metallic, saved by caramel & faint oak-like wood. Medium body, thin oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Pretty basic as a beer, but it does offer an unusual feat.

Bottle from FinestBelgianBeers. Pours a dark chestnut brown colour with a thin to medium soapy beige head. Aromas of malts, dry dark fruits, molasses, caramel, liquorice, faint chocolate, wood, and a little brown sugar. Taste has all the same notes as the aroma with added notes of alcohol. Low carbonation. Medium bodied with a smooth and oily mouthfeel and a slightly sweet fruity dry finish. Well balanced. an ok Dubbel.

Sampled @ ZBF 2016. (Thank you for sharing RB people!) Dark brown amber (? Shouldn’t this be like black?), tanned head. Nose is thick sweetish licorice, herbal, some leaves. Taste is massive herbal licorice, tad powdery, oily, low malts, leaves. Oily thick herbal; Way too much licorice, this is basically just pure licorice, nothing bad with this one but I am not into licorice this much.

From a bottle at the Brugge Beer Fesival 2nd Feb 2014. Almost clear dark reddy brown with a slight beige head. Aroma is malty with caramel notes alongside yeastiness and some dark berry and spicy esters. Flavour is fairly sweet with the malts leading the way, hints of liquorice and spice, bitter finish and aftertaste. Nice.

The younger, dark brother of Cluysenaer, with a sticky yellowish white head and deep bronze colour, misty. Aroma of hazelnuts, caramel, pear syrup, liquorice, plums, dates, cheesy hops, cloves. Candied and dried fruits in the mouth on a malty basis reminiscent of nuts, caramel and some chocolate, liquorice accent, some candi, creamy finish with a slight hint of woodiness from the added oak chips, sweetish with a mild grassy hop bitterishness. Like the blond one, well-balanced and correct, but nothing too exciting.
