Brewed for Domesticus.

Toegankelijk goudblond bier.

Bof.

New tripel from De Leite, bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck. Medium thick, off-white, moussy head slowly showing gaps in the middle but otherwise well-retaining with a thick ’membranous’ lacing around the glass; lightly hazy peach blonde robe with orangey hue, becoming cloudy and deeper orange with sediment. Aroma of strawberry-flavored bubblegum, marmelade, apple cake, dust, very old curcuma powder, camomile, sweetbread, coriander, powder sugar, old biscuit (as in Dutch ’beschuit’), warm toast, banana milkshake, sweet potato, light iron, dry hay, lots of very off-putting DMS (overcooked white cabbage) and some faint but unmistakable, overly medicinal phenols. Sweetish, fruity onset, lots of isoamylacetate (banana and bubblegum), hints of ripe pear and pineapple, slight peach and a ’dim’ sourishness buried underneath, lots of residual white candi sugar, very spritzy and notably minerally, even somewhat souring carbo, yet still supple, ’full’ and smooth mouthfeel. Cereally pale malt sweetness in the middle, bit bready and lightly biscuity without becoming caramelly but instead gaining a metallic edge, while fruity esters linger along towards a malty finish lacking in hops and therefore feeling a bit ’watery’ in spite of the ABV; there is a late, brief and superficial hint of peppery, leafy, earthy hop bitterness, but the malt and banana ester sweetness keep persisting more than anything else. Minerally notes remain at the very end as well, phenols remain more or less at bay (though still effectuating a somewhat medicinal retronasal aroma) and alcohol, though identifiable, remains well hidden and limited to a very subtle, ’lukewarm’, calvados-like afterglow. The residual white sugar sweetness and banana ester keep persisting after swallowing. Another tripel on the sweet side of the style, not entirely flawless in my book due to the DMS (however subtle it remains but still bothering me all the way through) and completely redundant. De Leite has done some interesting things in their ten-odd years of existence (see the Cuvées and that Fils à Papa series), so why taking this step backwards to a (sub)style which was overexposed already in the previous century? I don’t get this one...

Pours unclear blonde, big, aggressive white head fades fast. Smell is very grainy ( natural ) not even malty, but like actual grains. rather yeasty as well, but not in overpowering volumes. Taste is rather sharp, grainy, now malty as well. Yeasty, but again in a balanced manner. rather dry at the ending. A bit sweetness, mild bitterness. Easy going tripel, As usual great quality, but not as exciting as some other de leite beers.

33cl bottle, courtesy of 77ships @ Sebletitje’s Farewell Tasting.

Clear orange beer, big creamy irregular off-white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: marijuana, grassy, bit sweet, fruity. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet and malty start, fruity, very yeasty, some banana, soft bitterness. Aftertaste: yeast, some spices, sweet, decent tripel.

Bottle shared by 77ships @ Sebletitje’s Farewell tasting. Hazy orange color, small off-white head. Something weird in the arom that I can’t put my finger on. Flavor has it as well. Is it something floral or something herbal? Weird.

330 ml. bottle. Procured @ ALBO. BBF 04-07-2018. LOT-01. Dark hazy orange, fizzing away big white head. Nose is unpleasant metallic, rotting grains, moldy orange, sulfur, barnyard in a negative way,… Very fizzy beer. Other grains, old orange peel, other grains, sugar, stale grain, bread, soap, low candy,…. Smell is quite poor, taste isn’t too bad but is really yet another not too interesting, messy, generic, soap, orange peel etc. beer. This beer seems futile to me, the label isn’t appealing,… This one seems forced to join the line-up of being yet another one for me. I may be not the main target here. I do feel like there is nothing to set this one apart from the nameless herd. I get the slight feeling that they didn’t use the usual malts but it doesn’t help it ,see previous comments. Labels peel off very easily & ink smudges easily, seems like they used por quality ink, paper & glue as well.
