To celebrate our 3000th batch, we present a Belgian-style Barley Wine, simply called 3,000. Luscious layers of flavor begin with barley, wheat and rye malts followed by triple-hoppping with a single varietal. Fermentation, using two distinct yeast strains, achieves complexity in character and, of course, alcohol. This special batch was transferred into red wine oak barrels for eight months to age gregariously yet gracefully. After bottle-conditioning, this exclusive beer is ready for immediate enjoyment although it can be lovingly cellared for future festivities.
As we release 3,000 in January 2013, we hoist our glasses in thankful toast to YOU – our dearest friends in beer!

Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Aroma is very malty with lots of dark caramel and toffee, chocolate, light roast, and leather. Moderate dark fruit notes with lots of raisin, plum, prune, fig and cherry. Some moderate red wine and light oak notes. Light alcohol spice. Light anise and clove notes. A bit of a meaty, soy sauce note. Pours dark brown to black with a large, fairly thick and creamy, light mocha head that exhibits good retention as it slowly recedes to a small film that lingers. Moderate lacing and medium long legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with a low bitterness. Moderately strong chocolate notes with some dark caramel and toffee. Light roast and leather notes. Moderately strong red wine notes with grapes, raisin, plum, prune and cherry. Some light oak notes. Some light anise and clove notes. Light meaty, soy sauce notes. Light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium high carbonation. Low, but present astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, an odd beer and really no reason why this was called a barleywine instead of a stout. Malt profile is very dark and chocolate-y with some roast notes. Tons of dark fruit and red wine notes. I usually like some red wine character in my stouts, but this took it too far. I think the fruit also accentuates/contributes to the soy sauce/meaty note. I’m a bit disappointed in this beer.

Bomber via trade, anno 2013.

Thank you Sebletitje! Bomber sampled @ Sebletitje’s Farewell Tasting. 2013 Vintage. Dark brown going to black with little tanned bbbles. Nose is quite herbal, sugar, thick warming, quite boozy, red grape fortified wine, porto, sugar, very boozy. Taste is warming this syrop de Liège, molasses, cane sugar, very herbal, quite boozy malts, huge red wine, porto, red grpae, very boozy. Body is boozy thick malt, syrup & porto. An odd one, wine is too upfront, simple, bit too herbal tasting for me. Not but not entirely my thing.

18/XI/16 - 1Pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle @ Seb's Farewell Tasting (Eugene's place) - BB: n/a (2016-1324) Thanks to Sebletitje for sharing the bottle!
Clear dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, pretty stable, little adhesive. Aroma: sweet, caramel, pretty roasted (nothing Belgian about that), sourish touch. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: bitter start, bit sourish, roasted, fruity notes, earthy, some coffee. Aftertaste: alcohol, pretty roasted, bit sweet, banana peel, caramel, more alcohol, some coffee. This one held up very well, since it's been brewed over 3 years ago! Not a touch of oxidation to be noticed, except maybe that slightly acidic touch?

Bottle shared Sebletitje @ Sebletitje’s Farewell tasting. Dark brown color, medium sized brown head. Aroma is malts, quite heavily red wine and wood. Taste malts, again heavily red wine, wood and tannines. Dark malts, roast and somewhat bitter as well. Medium body, decent to medium carbonation. Hmm solid for sure, but red wine, nah, not my thing.
