Thx! 660 ml. bottle sampled. Out of the 8 Poppyland beers which we tried, all but one we tried appeared to be infected & this one is one of those seven. Pours a murky chestnut brown with a far to aggressive tanned head. Light sour nose, grainy mocha, touch something comparable to lacto, sour red fruits. Tastes of sour berries, mocha grains, chocolate milk, slightly milk, light sour,… Grainy body, carb. doesn’t feel entirely right. Far from good but most of their other beers were even worse. Abysmal at 10 £ per bottle @ brewery which is what the guy who shared this paid.

Bottle at the Black (IPA) Friday tasting, thanks to Kenny, 09/05/14. Murky dark mahogany brown with a big old light tan head of bubbles. Nose is bitter roast, spice, cocoa powder, dark toffee, floral hop tones. Taste comprises earthy cocoa streak, mineral notes, light pine, chocolate orange, earthy. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with a little hop bitterness. Adequate CDA.

Leighton 10K tasting at Bruce’s pad. Slow gusher. Opaque black - brown beer, big fluffy tan head. Palate is airy and a little dry. Very mild dark malts but quite earthy and bringing a touch of roast bitterness. Bitterish pine hops, over ripe orange underneath. Airy dry finish. Bitter linger. Not bad, just lacking a little refinement.

Bottle shared in London as part of the Black IPA Evening - many thanks to Kenneth. Bit of a gusher! Pours muddy brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose has burnt wood, earth, light cocoa. Light sweet flavor with baking cocoa, burnt wood, light astringency, dirt, dirty pine. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dirty roast on the finish, more burnt wood, baking cocoa. Pretty rough but not altogether bad. A dirty black IPA.

Bottle at Bruce’s. It pours murky brown with medium light tan head. The nose is rich, roasty, earthy, dirt, manure and cocoa. The taste is rich, bitter, varnish, pine needles, ashy, massive raw bitterness and dirt with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Pretty raw gear.

660ml bottle from the brewery. Cloudy, dark brown. Thick, fairly dense, lasting, beige head. Aroma is juicy, ripe, black fruit. Plenty of roast, dark malt. A Hint of toffee. Taste is big bitterness, as much from the roast malt, as the hops. Very nicely balanced, full bodied, with some astringency. Long, bitter finish. (The sweet finish mentioned in the commercial description has eluded me!). Very drinkable beer that belies its ABV.
