10.5oz capped bottle. This bottle is 12.10 abv. Bottle has a sticker RateBeer Best 2014 so I'm guessing it's a 2015 bottle. Pour isn't pretty. Looks like mud with no head. It's not a refined beer. But its missing a lot of flaws. Not astringent. No thin alcohol. Still very malty. It's a messy baked cookie maltiness. Alcohol is present but never obtrusive. A moderate body that was very undercarbonated. Short finish and makes me want to drink more. There is a good barleywine hiding in this beer.

Beer #9 of 17 for each day of the 2018 Winter Olympics - One for A Country Participating in the Games: #9 - Brasil Deep dark brown coloured body with a muddied glow and a very thin, almost non-existent off-white head. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruits, raisins, figs, tons of funk, tree bark, canella, fertilizer and a bit of brown sugar granola bars - really funky throughout. Full-bodied; Super sweet, super dense and ridiculously funky malty, sweet and rich tree bark and earthy bite with a lot of bitterness, mainly from off-spices and some residual flavours of molasses, root beer, sarsparilla, wintergreen and a dose of pure earthy funk with a lot of alcohol, but somewhat hidden. Aftertaste is squarely the bitterness from all the funky, earthy, rooty/herbal and especially pungent flavours that come from the ground, some like a pure dirt type flavour. The alcohol is well hidden, but there is some warmth near the end, but that is the only 'nice' factor. Overall, a very funky and incredibly odd beer that shows more of a grainy, 'gluten-free' or specialty grain flavour with earth, pungent funk and bitterness and a large alcohol bite near the end with a good deal of sugars as well. Definitely not worth trying and even though nice to sample a beer from a country represented at these 2018 Winter Games, this isn't a good beer. And, very funny, or whatever the joke happens to be - this bottle had a 2014 BEST RateBeer!*! Sticker on it, which made me buy this one in the first place. This is far from the best, unless it was the best specialty grain/aged Barley Wine from the Country of Brasil, then it probably is the best, because it's probably the only one! I sampled this extremely stubbby 10,5 ounce bottle (odd size here in the USA) purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 03-December-2016 for US$7,99 sampled at home in Washington on 17-February-2018.

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 330ml ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Listed at 12.1% on the bottle. Pours moderately hazy reddish brown color with a small dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, pepper, honey, caramel, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, toasted wood, and brown bread; with light notes of coconut, molasses, mint, chocolate, herbal, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Very slight booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and amburana barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, pepper, honey, caramel, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, toasted wood, and brown bread; with light notes of coconut, molasses, mint, chocolate, herbal, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal/roast bitterness and oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark fruit, cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, pepper, honey, caramel, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, toasted wood, brown bread, coconut, light chocolate/mint, herbal, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and amburana barrel flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/spiciness balance, with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and slightly slight/sticky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Alcohol is extremely well hidden; a slightly increasing warmth with zero booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent wood aged English barelywine! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/bready malt, and amburana barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. Very rich and well rounded in complexity. The South American wood barrels add a really unique spice-like profile to the beer; and this has really impressive malt and fruity yeast complexity; with mild balancing earthy hop presence. A very unique and enjoyable offering; and spot on style example.

330 ml. bottle sampled @ LIBF 2017. Thank you for sharing RB-InBev Belgian crew! Amburana is amazing as far as I can tell from beers aged on it. Bizarre golden / orange, really for a Barley Wine?! + creamy tanned head. Nose is sweet cinnamon, the Amburana, sweet sugar, messy with some mocha. Taste is sugar, vanilla, base is bit dull oily, mocha, dark fruit, base isn’t the best & it clashes a bit with the cinnamon / Amburana taste,... Messy body, caramel, clashing with the Amburana. Not the best but not bad at all, my love for Amburana is def. still there.

Bottle sample @ LIBF’17, thanks to the RB-InBev Belgian crew for the share.
