500 ml. bottle sampled @ Cantillon Quintessence 2014. Dark mahogany with little mocha head. Nose is very grainy and powder like, lots of cacao and mocha powder with some light soy sauce. Very grainy taste and feel, coffee, cocao, mocha, chocolate, soy sauce, liquorish, grainy roast. Satisfactory porter for sure.

Huge dark cream head over virtually black beer. Roasted, burnt nose, and quite a hint at (malt)sweetness. Roasted taste, with roasted nuts, liquorice, black chocolate and roasted, if slighlty sweet, meatcrumbs. Very well bodied but not heavy in any way. In the aftertaste there is a strange, rich port-like (not: porter!) flavour. Quite good porter, unusual, but none the less for that.

Bottle sample @ Cantillon Quintessence 2014.

Growler from my son’s friend Adam whom I helped introduce to big beers a couple years ago with a FW 10-15 vertical that the 3 of us shared a couple years ago. Nose is coffee, chocolate, combined con char (alliteration for you English profs on the site to enjoy). Cloudy super dark brown with a medium, heavy lacing, cinnamon tan head. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, roast, with light smokiness and bitterness.
