Bottle. A- Anise, smoke, leather, roasty, spuce, campfire. A- Black color, dark liquid, brown head. T- Smoke, char, roasty, tobacco, anise, juniper. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- Really interesting stuff. Not sure what aquavit tastes like but it’s definitely in here because there are flavors I don’t recognize. Almost boarderline smoked. Interesting for sure and almost overbearing. Sorta reminded me of a scotch. Great stuff just one of a kind for sure.

Bottle from Den Nordiske Ølhandel, Copenhagen; batch 602, brewed 10.05.13, bb 16.05.16
Black color with generous browinish head. Aroma of roasted malt and campfire, burnt wood, very light sulfur (matches). The mouthfeel is quite smooth, for sure leaner than expected at this gravity; strong flavor of roasted malt that doesn’t become too ashy and lets some dark chocolate show up; it has a hint of smoke, and an impression of spices (star anise), which could be the only sign of the Akevitt barrel aging; the final is a bit hot (chili pepper) and alcoholic.
A good beer, but not worth the high price tag.

500 mL bottle, brought by Freya to Ale Alpharetta. Black color, with a thin, beige head. Nose of chicory, vanilla, cherry, gin, and coffee. Sweet flavor, with a touch of smooth bitterness. Very heavy, creamy, and smooth. This is a nice, sharp, porter.

Pitch black with a dense, creamy tanned head. Good looking. Roasted aroma with dark malts, a very distinct aquavit barrel, caramel, chocolate, coffee, bread, vanilla, alcohol and dark, dried fruits. Taste is bitter and roasted. Full body with an oily texture and a soft carbonation. Long lasting bitter and roasted finish with herbal hops, fruits and bitter chocolate. Big, roasted Porter with the aquavit barrel adding extra layers of complexity to the flavour. Excellent.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color porter with a nice thick brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt with light dry roasted malt with some liquor notes. Taste is also a nice mix between some barrel-aged liquor notes with some black chocolate and some dry roasted malt notes. The barrel-aging is well balanced and cut some of the rough edges. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very enjoyable beer and really enjoyed the spirit notes that came through this one.
