The aroma is a blend of fresh grassy and floral hop and a subtly soft, caramel-tinged maltiness. The palate is a balance of gentle grainy maltiness and sprightly floral, citrusy fresh hop fruitiness. The finish is bittersweet with hints of citrus fruit weaving in and out.

Hops: Challenger, Goldings and Fuggles

Last beer of the day during a CAMRA pub crawl of Shifnal, Shropshire on 14th Dec 13. Hand-pulled pint in The Anvil, where the buffet was arranged for. I bet you can’t guess the body colour! OK, it might be golden and have a white crown on top. Semi-sweet malty molasses in the nose and taste with mild hop hints below the surface. This is a good session Ale and one I’ve had many times (surprised to find I’d never written about it before. I like the sweeter Uk Bitters and this sits nicely in that style and taste. Not blessed with powerful flavours or a rich body it’s just a well made and stylish beer.

Cask at the Happy Man, Englefield Green, 06/11/13. Clear golden with a moderate off white head. Nose is caramel, light malt notes, grassy, summer fruit. Taste comprises bready malt, fruits, bread dough, light caramac. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate with a lingering bitterness in the finish. Ok stuff - the conditioning was good on this one.

Cask at the Moon in the Square, Bournemouth. Clear, light amber pour, thin white head and some lace. This beer is malt all the way through with malt in the aroma and a caramel maltiness in the taste. There is almost no bitterness at all in this beer and one wonders what hops were used. This ale grew on me as it got warmer. I’d order it again!
