19th December 2011
Very dark brown beer, just about clear. Tidy tan head. Palate is relatively light and slightly soft. Mild dark malts with a trace of molasses. Really nicely balanced hops - fresh pine and mild citrus. Finishes smooth and slightly sweet with subtle red berry fruits emerging. Mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Really rather nice!

Thx. to tderoeck (Tim) for sharing this one // 33 cl. bottle sampled @ Timโ€™s De Molen & assorted beers tasting // Pours a red hued blackish colour with a creamy mocha head. Smells of sweet mocha, chocolate, creamy with berries & dash of milk. Taste is creamy, touch vanilla, mocha, milk chocolate, sweet dark malts, sugar & lighter touch of grainy bitterness. Medium bodied & far less heavy than most RIS. A good one.

Cask, half-pint at Euston Tap. Crispy, fawn-coloured head. Devil-black body. Dark grainy chocolate malts to the nose. Taste of chocolate and grain added by a little roastiness. Rounded bittersweet finish. In fact, easy to drink. Nice (London, 27.11.2012).

330ml bottle: best before Jan 2013, poured into a Gordon โ€™Finest Goldโ€™ thistle shaped glass on 10 Oct 2012 @ home. Lovely dark looking brew: hints of ruby red tints when held up to a strong light souce. The head was a deep, rich tan coloured affair which stayed and produced some heavy lacing. Chocolate malts fill the nose, nicely roasted but not burnt: coffee esters reach out as the beer warms in its new surroundings of my thistle glass. The taste mirrors the aromas: dark chocolate first and foremost with coffee arriving later: there is also a semi-bitter hop undertone within the flavours, this takes away the smoothness and richness I anticipated would be in the mouthfeel. Dry finish to every sip and although not unpleasant it took some of my pleasure overall.
