Panda at home, thanks to SHIG, 20/01/21. Blast from the past ... drank a lot of the relatively whelming but inoffensive BB when I lived in Wolvo, particularly down the Clarendon Arms (brewery tap). Golden amber with a decent white head. Nose is dusty fruits, hint of toffee apple, toasted grains, modest malt aromas, biscuit. Taste comprises biscuit malt, light apple core, toffee, dried fruits, grains, faint tea leaves. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a modest bitter nip. Passable for the style.

Bottle on 16th October 2020 from Co-Op, Kentish Town. Pours clear copper with no foam or lace. Biscuit malt aroma. Tangy fruits and biscuit malt in-mouth. Finish is biscuity with a touch of salt and butter. Medium bodied with a zingy mouthfeel.

500ml bottle from Lidl. Poured a clear copper colour with a short-lived frothy white head. The aroma is malt, light treacle toffee, woody hops. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a crisp, malty nutty, earthy, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Quite reasonable for the money, but I didnโ€™t pay much for it!

89 pence bottle from Asda, low expectations. Pours a light amber with small white head; fine. Biscuit and caramel aroma; no surprises also fine. Light body, low carbonation, quite slick on the palate; fine. Taste of biscuit, caramel, quite sweet, bitterness then kicks but doesnโ€™t last long; fine. Ticks all the right boxes for a basic bitter and is good value.

Cask @ White Swan, Hebden Bridge. Clear golden with a glow and a creamy head. It's an easy hopped brew with a berry-sweet nose.

Cask at the Chiltern Taps, Wycombe. Pump clip was selling this as Brewdolph made by The Park Brewery. However, investigation reveals that this is apparently just a rebadge of Banks's Amber. So first off I'd like to send a load of Christmas humbug to the Scrooges at both Banks and their paymasters at Marston's both for the lazy re-badging, and for the blatant theft of another existing brewer's name. I mean, how hard is it to knock up a new crap beer for Christmas? Every other regional brewery manages it. Anyway, as I hadn't had Banks Amber at least it was still a new rate. So; it's amber (obviously) in colour with a thin white head. It's sweetish, with a hint of caramel, a hint of orange and a mild dirty bitterness in the finish. It's bland and dull. And I'm knocking a further point off an already low score for the whole re-badging fiasco. Take that and stick it up your money-grabbing arses, Banks!

Bottle, from historic notes. As Bank's Bitter. Source not recorded. Poured amber with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, light hop, some fruit and boiled veg. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Light body, watery texture, soft carbonation. Wasn't very good.
