Slightly hazy brown pour, small off white head. Nice dark roasty, toasty malts. Solid nutty aroma, touches of toffee, and caramel. Soft mouthfeel, low carb. Medium bitter finish, great toasty, nutty finish. Quite satisfying, nice stuff.

Number 3 of the Historic Beers four pack from the LCBO. Pours a slightly opaque dark brown, with no initial head, but you do end up with a spotty sheet. Fairly active carbonation though, huh. Nose is roasted malt, slight chocolate, and... almost a berry, but a sour berry. The taste is full of malts, but that berryish nose is really much more of an astringent burn rye, berry flavour. It goes hand in hand with the tasted malts. A little burn bitterness in the aftertaste. I don’t know what that flavour is, it’s a new one for me, and I don’t really like it. Be interesting to see what you other RB guys said about this one.

Found in Ottawa. Somewhere. Pours with a pitch-brown body and a modest head on top, foggy, little visible carbonation. Aroma is wet barley and mash, like a maltina non-alc, certainly not encouraging. Flavour is a spicy barley mix, no complexity, simple barley water with a hint of pizzazz on the back end. Sadly there’s no complexity to this, just a watery pile of barley, but nonetheless still drinkable.

Bottle: Poured a clear medium brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of dry caramel malt with light grainy notes. Taste is also dominated by some dry caramel malt with some notes of grainy cereal. Body is about average with good carbonation. Run of the mill brown ale with dry cereal notes.

(bottle) clear brown colour with a small brown head; aromas of vanilla, roast; dry, pleasant flavour with a long light bitter finish; thin palate; more like a dry stout than a brown ale; nice

Aroma: Fruity malt accents like raisins and field berries with roasted notes of milk chocolate and a bit of caramel and brown sugar. Very interesting nose. Appearance: Brown with red glints, mostly clear, small creamy head but persistent. Lacing is fading rapidly. Taste: Attack is pretty roasted with notes of roasted grain. Not chocolate or coffee but roasted cereals. Farmyard taste. Also field berries and blackcurrant. Mouth feel is thin and watery but soft. Interesting roasted bitterness and wonderful nose are the characteristics of this beer. Few hoppy notes.

This brown ale poured a deep brown colour with a soapy mess for a head, even after a vigorous pour. Scents include ripe fruit, light caramel, roasted malts and toast. First swig had medium carbonation with flavours of roasted caramel, light coffee and nuts. Overall, a very thin mouthfeel like most of Trafalgars brews but this one I think is the best. Finish is roasty with a slight nuttiness left on the palate.
