21st June 2021: Monthly Beer Share, Chez Sophie in Shrewsbury. Only four of us this time around. Cheers Mat for the 33cl bottle; BB Apr 2024. b Beige head on a very dark brown body, slight haze to the pour. Malty molasses in the 'boozy' nose, taste also leaning towards a malty sweetness. Woody and vanilla traces give an extra dimension to this very pleasant Bourbon BA.

330ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, June 21. Brought by me. Pours a hazed dark brown, small beige head. Big sweet booze-ridden aroma, strong barrel influence to taste, sweet with almond, marzipan and vanilla elements coming into play. Pretty good.

Bottle sourced from Beerdome and shared at home (01/11/2020) - black with a beige head. Dark sweet malty with notes of toffee, molasses, caramel, dried fruit, intense bourbon coming in, just a flicker of vanilla, full body, bourbon soaked wooden accents into the warming lingering sweet malty finish. Very nice.

Je serai intéressé pour tester le Shadow Assassin car dans cette version vieillie en fut d'early times, il n'en reste pas grand-chose vu que le bourbon prend très nettement l'ascendant. Et au lieu de de s'allier au bourbon, la bière fait ici office de faire valoir, ce que je trouve dommage, car nous parlons ici avant tout de bière. Ce Shadow Assassin est cependant un joli faire valoir avec un ensemble bien équilibré entre malt/sucre/alcool, mais difficile de parler plus en avant de la bière. Le visuel est sur un brun quasi noir, avec une fine couche de mousse beige. Au nez cela sent fort le bourbon qui écrase tout. On arrive tout juste à deviner des notes de chocolats, raisins et candy. L'attaque est d'emblée sur un bourbon chaleureux et prédominant. En lus des arômes du nez on décèle un léger poivre. On continue sur le même programme en seconde bouche et le bourbon devient même un peu trop fort en arrière-bouche. Le final, qui retombe un peu laisse le goût de bourbon en bouche. L'ensemble est globalement agréable, mais aucun doute l'early times a assassiné le black barley wine qui n'est plus que l'ombre de lui-même.

Bottle. Dark brown pour. Aroma of sweet bourbon vanilla, caramel fudge, raisin, figs, caramelised malt, sweet cherry and dates. Taste has boozy caramel fudge, bourbon vanilla, raisin, figs, dates, sugary molasses, caramelised malt and a boozy bourbony finish. Has a bit more dark caramel flavors, combined with bourbon vanilla it gets a bit sweet, but the golden combination of barley wine and bourbon still works great.

Väga vaadine, burboonine, tammene, magus ja röstine, linnaseline. Lõpp on kuiv, karamelline ja mõru. Väga hea.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Hint of roast, but especially oak, vanilla and bourbon in the aroma. Malty sweet, alcoholic flavor with caramel, hint of roast, vanilla, oak and bourbon.
