A golden beer whose aroma is dominated by hops that give characteristic citrus notes. Hops and fruit on the palate are balanced by malt and a bitter base. Dry hoppy finish with soft fruit flavors. A nationally respected ale, winner of numerous awards, JHB is a blond baby packed with flavour & perfect for those long sessions as well as a quick pint at lunchtime.

Bottle, along with the Molings beer I picked this up for 99p at the โ€™Dodgy Deliโ€™ on the Cowley Road 20-09-06. Sweet but also very fruity and floral nose to this beer which poured a pale golden colour a little bit on the fizzy side. Tasted very fresh with a fruitiness to it again with nice subtle lemony and citric flavours pushing through and hops in evidence I rather liked this beer.

Cask at Oakham Brewery Tap, Peterborough. Straight from the holding tanks in a 4 pint pitcher, this was the best tasting JHB I have ever had (and Iโ€™ve had a fair bit). Light gold in colour with a really good tangerine/grapefruit nose with a flowery hoppiness too. And because it is a session beer you can just keep drinking it. Finish is citric and hoppy and slightly acidic but extremely well made and very well balanced

Cask conditioned at NERAX 4/27/2005
Lightly amber tinged, blonde and gold beer, small white head. Hint of vanilla and light herbs hides behind the citrus and other fruits. Very impressive body on this showcases malt, citrusy hops, and some strawberries and mangoes. Very low carbonation, not watery. A bit of papery dryness on the end, however.

Flat bitter and hopped aroma with a citric finish. The flavour is basically hopped. Overall a relatively plain bitter.

[Cask at GBBF 2003] A light yellow beer with a creamy but disappearing head. The aroma is sweet and simple. The flavor is sweet and simple too but it ends on a fine bitterness, that turns dry and lingers. A simple but good bitter.

Golden; nose is quite fruity, with a good hop rate; fresh-tasting, fruity (pineapple, blackberry, pear); slight mineral note.

Rerate, 2015, 500 ml bottle, from Prima Beer, Hobro. ABV is 4.2%. I had to sample to bottled version to see if the glamour from the cask version was gone. It is not. Still a lovely and refreshing beer, with tingling hops throughout. Original rating 2002: (Cask conditioned at The Grid, Southfields, London). One of the best beers Iโ€™ve ever tasted! Top rating at The Great British Beer Festival. A real ale bitter with a complex aroma and flavour, still itโ€™s surprisingly light and refreshing.
