A Botanical Saison w/ Heather, Lavender, Chamomile & Dandelion
7.2% ABV
-
The intro to our 10th Anniversary rewind - and perhaps one of our most formative brews - is a botanical saison dubbed “of Love & Regret”. The first batch was produced in the small town of Beerzel, Belgium in 2010.
Meant to evoke the delicate aromas of Spring, this beer was a tribute to the changing nature of the seasons, during what was a rather
transformative season in Brian’s own life. This was the first beer we crafted overseas - the experience of which would shape the model we would follow for years to come - eventually leading to the production of Stillwater beers & collaborations in over 30 countries.
Soft malts, herbaceous hops, & fragrant botanicals come together in an elegant ode to the bittersweet passage of time.

Recht würziger Antrunk mit deutlich belgischem hefeursprung. Süß, getreidig, nicht ganz ausgewogen, süß-kräuterartig, trocken, noch OK. 9/7/8/7//7

Bottle at The Funky 7, Brooklyn. Pours cloudy gold with a big, off-white head. Bready aroma with notes of fruits, toffee, nuts and spices. Medium sweet flavor, some sugar, apple, citrus, grass. Medium bodied with plenty of carbonation. Sweet finish, some yeast, grapes, floral hops. A very interesting beer.

Bottle. Slightly hazy golden-brownish with a large fluffy white head. This was a special beer. Quite a lot of mint both in the aroma and taste. Also spices, grass and lemon. Drinkable but not an excellent beer.

Bottle from Franklin’s in Hyattsville, MD. A bit of a gusher. Hazy amber with floating particles. Large offwhite head. Decent head retention. Aroma of bready notes, cherries, big spice notes, toffee, nuts and a slight buttery note. The taste is big spice, almost coming across as eggnog spice grassy hops, citrus, nutty notes. Tart finish. Medium bodied.

Had this at T’Arendsnest, Amsterdam, Netherlands 29.09.11. Forgotten if on tap or bottle but I would guess the latter. Quite scented and a big bunch of dried flowers going on in the mouth with lavender and loads of other stuff. Pours hazy amber with slim white head, quite intense on the floralness, it’s not bad by any stretch but not totally my thing if truth be known. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Still writing up notes from Dark Lord Day. Sampled from bottle. Without reading anything about the beer, the fellow tasters with me agree this has a saison impression, with a strong trail of lavender in it. Which you will either like or not. Cloudy in the glass, but I’m probably getting most of my samples from the bottom of the bottle. Light brown, with a thin ring of foam. Taste is of flowers and lavender. Very good stuff, what can I say.

11.2 fl oz (33 cl?) bottle thanks to and shared with sebletitje on September 15, 2011Hazy honey color, bubbly white head. Spicy, sweet, alcohol scent; also floral, cinnamon, orange peel. Cinnamon, wheat bread, spicy taste. Spicy and alcohol with cinnamon, also floral aftertaste. Moussy mouthfeel, medium low bitterness. Like smelling and tasting cinnamon roles before you put them into the oven. Sugary and cinnamon wheat dough.

33cl bottle from Struise beer shop.

Hazy amber with a small white head. Spicy and herbal aroma, especially sage and mint. Dry and bitter flavour with herbs completely overpowering anything else
