On tap at La Source taproom, Brussels, Saturday 1st October 2022 in the company of Lynn and Barry, on Barry's birthday. Pours black or as good as with a thin film of light beige. Coffee and a little cocoa powder on the nose. Smooth rich and creamy in the mouth, but plenty of coffee, this is nice.

Very strong coffee stout by La Source, tasted from tap there (thanks Didier for the ride!). Medium thick, moussy, mocha-beige, irregular yet stable head on a jet black beer with thin, misty mahogany edges. Aroma of cold coffee (with milk) and coffee grounds, mocha ice cream, pecan nuts, rainwater, toffee, rum, chocolate, coffee cream, bayleaf, shoe polish. Sweet onset with light sourish edge, softish carb, full body; aspects of raisin and candied fig linger over a syrupy, chocolatey, deeply toffeeish maltiness, bittersweet with some residual caramelly sugariness adding to the 'coffee with milk' or cappuccino experience; some herbal bitterness from hops in the end, but actual roasted bitterness remains very mild, instead this sweet base lets the aromas of the coffee speak without picking up on the ingredient's inherent bitterness. Lots of warming rum-like alcohol in the end, but somehow the booze stays where it belongs, a testimony of this brewery's skills; their intention seems to have been to create a boozy, creamy, sweet, soft but dangerously drinkable coffee stout and that is exactly what you get.

9/IV/21 - 33cl can from La Source webshop, shared @ home, BB: 23/XII/21 (2021-266)

Clear dark brown to black beer, practically no head, dissipates immediately. Aroma: coffee, very roasted, malty, more coffee, cocoa powder, dry and dusty impression. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: good roast, lots of coffee, some caramel, chocolate, pretty bitter, malty, soft acidity. Aftertaste: soft bitterness, roasted, sweet, caramel, some vanilla, pretty bitter, good roast, nice stuff, really good!

33cl can, BB 04/08/2021.
