Unusual fruit ‘pseudo-lambic’ (which sounds less respectful than I mean it to sound) using loquat or ‘Japanese medlar’, a fruit species native to China and Japan - and not the same as the ordinary European medlar! - but not well known in the west – in fact I never had it in spite of my general interest in both botany and gastronomy, and never had a loquat beer before either. Snow white, opening, dissolving ‘head’ on a warm yellowish ‘old golden’ robe with pale dots of something floating around – proteins I guess. Aroma of unripe apricot, hard pear, apple peel, green gooseberry, stale sweat, margarine, grass, chamomile, touch pineapple. Fruity onset, spritzy in carbonation (a tad lambrusco-like) with lots of yellow-green fruit effects from the loquat, reminiscent of hard pear, unripe pineapple and unripe nectarine; supple body, cereally backbone dried by both the astringent and tart effects from the fruit and lactic tartness, which, as typifies Antidoot sours, remains elegant, slender and fruity. Minerally notes in the end along with ongoing fruity and lactic tartness – or sour fruitiness, drying but nowhere harsh or wry. I still do not know what a fresh loquat tastes like but I promise I will eat one as soon as I get the chance – this beer in any case makes a good case for it, who knows we get a lot more loquat beers in the future…

12 February 2022. At Winter Belgian Beer Geek Gathering. Many thanks for hosting, Tim, and cheers to the whole crew!
Clear golden, thin, white head. Aroma of unripe peach (the medlar I presume), gooseberry, yellow apple, funky straw, oak. Taste has sweet-sour stonefruit, berries and straw, tad bitter. Tart, yellow-fruity finish, stonefruit mixing well with grapes & woody tannins. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Refreshing and quite complex.

12/II/22 - 75cl bottle @ BBGG Winter 22, BB: 30/VII/24, lot: 2021/07/03 (2022-172) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!
Clear pale orange beer, small creamy off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: weird, lots of diacetyl, buttery, sweet caramel, weird, dirty. MF: ok carbon, medium body, oily texture, a bit weird. Taste: dry, bit peppery, dirty, weird, unpleasant. Aftertaste: dry, soft acidity, pretty bitter, herbal, spicy, weird, nope, not my thing...

75cl bottle @ Brewver Winter Gathering '22, thanks Erwin. Bottled 07/2021.

Taster from 0,75l bottle at the brewery. Amber hazy color, no head. Smells joghurt, spices, wood, grassy, bit chlorophyll, milky. Bit weird. Medium body, soft carbonation. Tastes citric, grassy, earthy, herbal, peppery, spices. Finishes dry and lightly sour with notes of citrus, kumquat and grassy notes. Quite good one, liked the taste better then smell smell. Overall very good beer
7,4,8, 3,16
Nose: super citrus and brett brightness. Palate: straight citrus juice just shy of puckering. Lot of zest and pith notes.

Bottle, 750 ml at Malz, Leuven. Courtesy of Tin, shared with him, Miro and Miro B. Cloudy orange with minimal white head. Some weird aroma at first. Goes away afterwards. Fruity, malty, sourish. Not sure medlars are best choice for sours.

Mag opened at Eric's BDay share. Pours unclear orange, small white head. Scent is fruity, mild yet very complex and refined. Tart, full, oaky. Taste is full, tart, oaky, sharp, funky, very oaky finish. Wine itself is hidden. Medium mild ( yet present) fruityness, my guess is the fruit just isn't that loud. very nice, funky woody finish with a full, fruity/funky side. Loads of raw flavors in here, but presented very refined in the beer's completion.
Great! And pairs nicely with Sushi 😀
