Zum krönenden Abschluß wurde bei Hofmark schon immer im März ein besonders kräftiges und süffiges Bier eingebraut, welches wegen des hohen Malzanteils lange im Bierkeller gelagert werden konnte. So war das Märzenbier dann für die heißen Sommermonate ein guter und verlässlicher Begleiter.
Und der „Gestiefelte Kater“ zierte schon unser Etikett, als in unseren alten Bierkellern noch mit Eisstangen gekühlt wurde.

Dark copper color with a frothy, white head. Aroma promises caramel and toasted grains. Taste is mildly sweet up front, ending with a faint, toasted bitterness. Medium bodied, decent chewiness, smooth. Goes down real easy. Simple but fine.

(Bottle) Hazy amber colour with creamy, tan head. Malty nose with crisp-bread, cereal, hay, citrus peel and herbal hops. Malty taste with crisp-bread, hay, citrus peel, honey, apricots and a mild herbal bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Well balanced and harmonious. Nice one.

Final nightcap of the great tasting of Niederbayern.
Juicy malt, pleasant sweetness, broad pleasant hop aromatics.
Deep golden, clear, offwhite head.

0.5l bottle from REWE Farnhammer Tittling. Clear full amber body, fleeting head. Nice creamy caramelly aroma, light. Lean, sweetish, dry taste, caramelly, just vague vegetal touches by the finish. Prickly, not much bitterness. Okay, lightly imperfect in the finish but otherwise pretty tasty.

Flascherl (Courtesy of MoritzF): Clear, deep golden with an orangey sheen, small persistent white foamy layer, moderate to solid sweet malty and caramelly and mildly toasty nose with a mild, but distinctive herbal-hoppy background; robust sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied, a bit fizzy; lingering malty-toasty finish with a herbal-bitter counterpart in the aftertaste. Very decent Märzen...

Endlich wieder ein Märzen, dass die Eigenschaften dieses Bierstils ernst nimmt. Sehr anständige 5,8 % Alkohol. Bernsteinfarben. Verwechslungsgefahr mit einem Hellen ausgeschlossen. Eine ordentliche Portion Malz, ein Hauch Honig, der Anflug von fruchtigem Sekt und aromatischem Sherry. Mit Hopfen wurde nicht gespart (bildet einen schönen Kontrast zur Süße des Bieres und egalisiert diese fast). Sofort im Antrunk merkt man das und die hopfenbittere Note hallt auch nach dem letzten Schluck noch nach. Wird im Schlussteil etwas gallig und trocken - aber das ist nicht ausgeprägt genug, um den Genuss auch nur ansatzweise verderben zu können. Dass die Zutaten aus biologischem Landbau kommen, ist natürlich ein großer Pluspunkt.

Bottle picked up from Apfel Getränkemarkt, Moosburg, consumer at home Saturday 5th February 2022 listening to Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show on 6 Music and having a Chill 'Off' against Loz (more on that later with subsequent reviews I guess) we also had a nice Zoom chat with Scott and Mandy. Pours deep gold, warm gold with a white head, good clarity. Malty but not assertively so, some grainyness, sweetness, soft mouthfeel, there is not an awful lot here but it's still pretty decent, light caramel, good.

0,5 l bottle from Zisch, Wildeshausen. Clear red golden, maybe amber in the glass, small one finger head. Real malty on the nose, some hop. Taste is also malty with caramel, floral bitter hop, grainy in the second part. Less bitterness than expected but a really nice one.

50cl bottle. A clear dark golden beer with a off-white head. Aroma of caramelized malt, some nuts and grains. Taste of deep caramelized reddish malt, nuts, some grainy malt. Good!
