Pours a deep dark brown colour with a reddish hue and a small foamy beige head. The aroma is roasted malts with some coffee notes. A moderately sweet and light roasted taste, a smooth, and creamy mouthfeel, sweet roasted malts, milky coffee, a hint of chocolate, and a smooth sweetish roasted finish.

Handpull cask at the Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Not Black but extremely dark brown, minimally translucent with a thick beige head. Sweet malty aroma with lashings of chocolate fudge syrup. Sweet taste, loads more chocolate with a delicious hop bitterness at the end of the sip. Hints of liquorice join the chocolate in the finish. Soft carbonation on top of a light body. I've had some Kirkstall beers that were fairly average but this was a cut above.
