The barrel aged versions of this beer are usually very reliable, but I was a tad underwhelmed here. Feels less rich than older versions. It's still a very nice classic barleywine, with raisins, caramel and other dried fruits. Lots of wood, dry port.

Klasse!

0.33 l bottle from 'Ace Drinks', bottled in April 2020, cellared for more than half a year. A little hazy, deep ruby with a thin, foamy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently fruity, slightly vinous aroma of molasses, caramel, honey, vanilla, raisins, prunes, candied cherries and some port. Very sweet, moderately bitter, intensely malty, quite fruity taste of molasses, caramel, raisins, prunes, candied cherries, vanilla, honey, some port and a touch of wood, followed by a long, gently bitter, a little tart, warming, slightly vinous and moderately woody-dry finish. Almost full-bodied, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Another superb variant of this fantastic Barley Wine, like the Rioja version with pleasant woody and tannic tones which cut through the immense sweetness. Good!
