This ale is traditionally highly hopped and robust to survive the long voyage to the Indian sub-continent. The result is a full-bodied Pale Ale with a zesty character. Dark golden in colour, pleasing toffee aromas, and distinctive floral citrus flavours.

Bottle at LCRBM3. Really disappointed with this. Attractive clear orange/brown colour with lasting white head. Buttery, some decent hop tingle on end, but ultimately disappointing. Some toastiness.

Clear amber-gold; light white-transparant head. Toffee cookies, chocolate (being a clear beer!), English caramels. Sweetish, with a light bitter ending, human sweat, ureum. Light, light, even near-watery. It ENDS bitterish. But this is not an IPA.

Clear golden colour, small white head. Aroma is hoppy, hints of pine and fruits. Taste is hoppy as well, with some moderately bitterness and dryness. Not very exciting.

Clear orange golden color, short head. Aroma is heavily hopped, some grapefruit and a hint of pine. Maybe not as strongly hopped as American IPAs, but certainly Malty taste, bitter. Quite nice stuff. --- Beer merged from original tick of India Pale Ale on 01 Jul 2017 at 17:33 - Score: 5

bottle - Pours copper with a two finger lingering head. It smells mainly of English style hops with a touch of malt. The flavor is more of the same and is pretty well balanced. And yeah, I don’t know why it’s listed as an ESB either. I think a an old English brewery knows what an IPA is.

Bottle from Country Club Liquors; Nose of grassy hops; copper with a medium ivory head; flavor of some hop bitterness, and a hint of molasses and buttery popcorn (diacetyl). Not my kind of ESB!

500 ml "flask." Gotta love those bottles, even if their green colors is a source of concern. A bright, clear copper in my shaker, with a light surface of foam. Smell is English hops all the way, just a touch of citrus at the tip of the nose. Texture is a little fizzy, but then I expect every English beer now to feel like a nitro or cask, even when it’s been bottled. But good biscuit and scone malts. Description mentions a single hop, and one I’m unfamiliar with yet, but it’s more spicy than other English hops, with a flash of pepper, earthiness and agin, maybe even a tease of citrus. As a straight-ahead English IPA, it fills the curve nicely.

Bottle from Waitrose, Thame, Oxon, 27-07-07 Golden in colour with nice citrusy hoppy aroma, good solid hoppy taste with suprising bitterness and lack of sweetness there, citrus in the mouth to with also some gentle vanilla notes. Easily the best of the bunch that I had last night.

500ml bottle from Waitrose - 5.5% ABV. Bright amber with a white head; leaves some lacing; sweet biscuity aroma; strong malty flavours with an equally strong hop finish; dry and bitter. This certainly takes no prisoners.
Rerate Another 500ml bottle from Waitrose - this time with a New Hoppier Taste flash on the label. This doesn’t seem that different to me - perhaps a paler, straw, colour; but still with a malty aroma and taste; and some dry spicy hops give a firmly bitter finish.

Clear amber body with a medium creamy white head. Sweet malty aroma with some caramel and floral hops. Lightly sweet caramel flavor with some very gentle floral hops in the end.
