Welsh Red IPA. Bendigeidfran was the crowned king of the island of Britain, from the legends of the Mabinogi, which have their roots in Dyffryn Nantlle where our beer is brewed. Bendigeidfran was a giant of a man, brave and strong of character: features that are reflected in this excellent beer. A giant of a beer!

Bottle from Wally's Delicatessen, Cardiff. Clear bronze to light brown in colour with a rapidly vanishing beige head. Good full mouthfeel but with a rather too prickly fizz. Caramel, berries and a little grass, with a slightly mineralogy bitterness in the finish. Good balance between sweet and bitter. Quite enjoyed this.

Bottle. Nose is caramel, rye, red currant, hint of toffee. Taste is caramel, burnt sugar, spice, rye, very light grapefruit in the finish. Good example of a style I tend to skip.

500ml bottle from Purple Moose shop, Betws Y Coed. Pours deep amber, good pale beige head. A proper Welsh red ale this, leafy, malty, nutty, with underlying fruity moments and a robust woody bitterness. Not my preferred beer, but can't deny this is good for style.

Bottle from Stori. Appearance - golden, not red. Off-white fluffy head. Nose - lemon, biscuit but mainly caramel. Taste - more caramel and biscuit. Palate - light bodied, creamy texture. A touch sweet on the finish for the style. And not red! Overall - ok.

Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Medium body, slightly oily, average carbonation. Tasted good, much better than the aroma.
