Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue’s Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole’ black and tan!

Bottle courtesy of Craig shared with him (cheers mate), consumed in a wet field at Fairports Cropredy Annual Reunion 12-07-10 Pours copper in colour with an off white head. There is a nice nose, slightly vegetal with a touch of underlying sweetness. Some warmth in the mouth with a little burn. There is definately some oven roasted sweet peppers also showing some light caramelised touches (which I like) Nice beer. ( A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Enjoyed from bomber while staying at the Rogue Bed & Beer in Newport, OR. Aroma is of spices, red peppers, and hops. Appearance is like an IPA, somewhat amber with a frothy white head. Taste is very unique and good, unexpected. I was anticipating not finishing this bottle as I’m typically not one for spiciness, but it’s not really spicy while still maintaining a spicy character. I’m tasting spiciness from peppers, but it’s very sooth and balancing with spicy hops. Also, fantastic smoky characteristics for a finish. Very much enjoyed and would drink again!

Bomber from GM Liquors. Nose of light pine and grassy hops and some hints of smoke. Clear copper with a huge, very lightly lacing beige head. Flavor is lightly bitter with some smoke and pepperiness from the chilis present after a couple seconds.

Weak malt aroma. Amber coloring approaching that of copper, thin head. Richly delicious flavor of leather with even a bit of horse blanket. Hot pepper finish, not overstated.Unique, very enjoyable, and a little addictive. Ignoring the pepper shtick, the base beer was fantastic. Dare I say it, some but not all brewers will occasionally dress up bad beer (fruit, pumpkin, spice) in order to salvage subpar batches. Thank you for not doing this Rogue!

22 oz bottle. Only faintly spicy in the nose. Light caramel presence is also detectable. Aromas open up a bit after it sits a bit. Pours orangish-amber with a nice head which dissipates in about two minutes. Good lacing. Tastes of peppers and tobacco; only moderately spicy. Medium body, medium carbonation. I’m a little disappointed in this one. While not bad, I’ve had better chili beers (Coopersmith!!!).
