473 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.5%. Nearly clear amber to brown colour, small and shortlived off-white head. Aroma of malts, caramel and maple syrup, a hint of smoke. Pleasant mouthfeel and flavour, malts, maple syrup and smoke again, hints of dark berries, but not too sweet. Low bitterness.

A slight haze created by a bunch of tiny, transparent particles floating around. Golden-amber colour with an off-white head, average stay and a ring left on the brew. An amber beer nose with the fruity malts, decent grassy hops and then, some smoked wood and hints of maple. This fruitiness (apples), smokiness (burnt wood) and tad maple sap, herbal notes continues in the taste. Some decent drying finish. A caramel malt base mildly all the way. An interesting Amber Ale with a touch of the maple shack.

Draft: Poured a clear amber ale with an off-white foamy head. Aroma of maple and smoked malt is enticing enough. Taste is also a mix of light caramel malt with some maple notes with some lingering smokiness. Body is about average with good carbonation. I wouldn’t drink copious amount of this beer but enjoyable nonetheless.

To celebrate the beginning of Spring I decided to combine traditions from Quebec (maple) and Japan (a nearby Shrine). Corsaire Oreille de Crise 6.5% probably the 2017 release so drunk a year after release. I got this on sale at Fromagerie Atwater last winter for 2 bucks. The name means Jesus’s Ear and is a popular fried pork dish (kind of like pork rinds) at sugar shacks. As the label says the aroma is a Smokey bacon evocative of a rauchbier. The taste on the other hand is very much maple syrup and caramel malts added to the smoke. The finish especially brings to mind maple. A really fun beer that recalls spring visits to the Cabane a Sucre (sugar shack where they make maple syrup) in Quebec. I can’t believe this cost me like 250¥ or so, what a steal. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
