From tap at Bierfestival Groningen 2018. Sharp unbalanced barrel aroma with lots of iodine, alcohol, roasted malt, green apples, chocolate, notes of orange, and/or "sinassnippers". Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Nice flavour but way too boozy and sharp, more unrefined Dutch barrel aging. It gives me a headache.

17/IV/21 - 33cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck (Vichte), shared @ home, BB: III/2021, batch: BP 18.06 (2021-300)

Clear dark brown to black beer, small creamy beige head, rather unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of whisky, very oxidized, spicy, good roast, some dried fruits, honey. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of alcohol, bitter roast, whisky, oxidized, spicy touch, more whisky, some cardboard. Aftertaste: coffee, charcoal, lots of alcohol, melon rinds, too much alcohol and too roasted, no balance despite the fact that I gave it quite some time in the bottle to mellow out. Reminds me of a lot of the De Molen barrel aged beers. Don’t like it.

0.33 l bottle from 'Ace Drinks', best before March 2021, cellared for about one-and-a-half years. Pitch black, no head whatsoever. Sweetish, malty, gently roasty and a little boozy aroma of praline, soft cake, licorice and whisky. Quite sweet, malty, gently roasty taste of praline, licorice, coffee, soft cake and quite some whisky, followed by a medium long, gently roasty-bitter, slightly earthy and gently boozy finish. Medium to full body, oily mouthfeel, flat. Somewhat strange for a Whisky BA RIS, but not nearly as unpleasant as some ratings suggest. I assume I was lucky and got a good bottle. But: What is a Warhead? 😅

Black with a ring beige head. Aroma of green apple, booze, whisky, oak, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel and toffee. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Light full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle. Black. Herbal aroma and flavor with grapefruit and lost of whisky. Dark chocolate. Malty sweet. Full bodied. Quite complex. Yummie!

A en voir les critiques, cette Barel Project 18.06 ne laisse pas indifférente, en positif ou en négatif. Il faut dire qu'elle y va fort sur le fût de Warhead, et ce avec une alliance sur le Sorachi Ace qui ne la rend pas facile d'accès (le deuxième houblon utilisé étant le Fuggles). Si personnellement j'apprécie fortement les Imperial stout intégrant du Sorachi Ace, ce houblon conférant une plénitude aromatique, je trouve que le passage en barrique de Warhead est beaucoup trop puissant et écrase la base d'Imeprial Stout ce qui déséquilibre la bière. Noir total en verre (EBC de 110), l'effervescence est quasi nulle et donc aucune mousse n'est présente. Le nez est sur une très bonne alliance, avec beaucoup de caractère et plein sur le fût de warhead, le café, le chocolat, le café et les arômes du Sorachi Ace. A la dégustation, l'alliance est clairement déséquilibrée vers le fût de warehead qui prend l'ascendant avec tout de même le Sorachi Ace qui résiste quelque peu pour un cocktail intéressant. Côté corpulence ça envoie du lourd par contre avec de plus un caractère bien présent aidé en cela par un alcool à 10,5 % qui va crescendo pour être très punchy sur le final. L'amertume à 108 d'EBU est bien dosé quant à lui, tout comme le sucre, pas trop présent. Pas convaincu même si cette bière possède des qualités indéniables.

33cl Bottle, thanks Harmen! Black colour, beige head. Aroma of old wood, green apples, acetone, lots of whisky, caramel, roasted malts, light sourness. Flavour is medium sweet, caramel brownie smothered in green apple acetone booze, harsh, wood, some chocolate, hint of peat, boozy finish. Medium to full bodied. Total train wreck, all over the place.
